Chapter 11 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

Who do you think is the most suspicious?

You're most suspicious of Au Revoir

You took a deep breath, then answered conclusively: it had to be Au Revoir. Goodbye winced. "I thought you might say that... But let's go over your reasoning. I don't know everything about this meeting's purpose, but there's a chance it's going to come up. We need to make sure all of our notes are in order before we present that kind of information to top brass..."

The biggest issue was, transparently, her past as an Adder operative. You'd seen and felt the effects that Bound Blood 1000 can have on a person; if Au Revoir had gone through some kind of conditioning while working for the terrorist organization, who knew how much of that had stuck? {if Au Revoir's Hidden Past > 999}Adder had invested in her as a kind of super soldier, pumping her full with enough genetic modifications to make Dr. Nora Goldstein blush. The same mods that gave her the super strength she so often exhibited had probably done a number on her brain, explaining her at times erratic behavior and judgment. It wasn't hard at all to imagine that she might have killed someone, under that kind of influence, nor that she might kill again. It would be just like Adder to deliver the Goodbye Girls this kind of time bomb...

"That's a very valid point. I'd like to think she's done enough harm to Adder to overrule that kind of possibility, but..." Goodbye trailed off, crossing her arms across her chest.{endif}{if Au Revoir Killed Adder Adjutant = 1}

The next point, and probably the most damning: Au Revoir had been controlled, in front of your own eyes, by a prototype drug called Bound Blood 10.{if Au Revoir's Tattoo = 1}You theorized that tattoo on her leg must be related.{endif} The effect of that brainwashing had been so powerful, she'd killed the Adjutant, before falling into a stupor, questioning her own identity. There was no way you could fully trust a field agent susceptible to those kinds of orders, under the influence of a type of mind control that CEDIT science had found no way to conclusively cure as of yet. At any time, the switch could flip, turning her back into Python, Brielle Sergeant, or whatever Adder wanted her to be.

"Hmmmm... You're probably right," your boss admitted with a shudder.{endif}{if Au Revoir Affinity > 199}

Despite saying all of this, were you okay with turning your back on Au Revoir? If CEDIT decided she was the mole and if it was for the good of international security, it wouldn't necessarily be a matter of "rushing the antidote's development." A more rapid means of ending her threat could be decided upon... You asked Goodbye that, in the end, you would be allowed to take care of the matter in your own way.

"I can't promise that, Ciao. You know better than anyone: this mission is of vital importance. It's bigger than you, me, or any of the Goodbye Girls. If worst comes to worst, CEDIT will do what has to be done," she promised with an unusually business-like manner. You sighed deeply in response.{endif}

The rest of the trip was spent busily continuing to discuss the matter. You'd managed to get your minds off of your suspicions earlier, when the plane ride had been pleasant and quiet, only to have that illusion ripped away and your mind returned to the mission.

What's next?
