Chapter 10

Your choice?
Stores
You should go search for a bunch of stores. Luckily, this city has a lot of them, with the center having several supermarkets. That's why you go to this city before the zombie outbreak.
Unfortunately, that meant that this place would be a hotspot for zombies as a lot of buyers and tourists gather, which have been turned. You're a bit wary about going any deeper as it has a higher density of zombies.
"We're heading to the stores; a hardware store would be preferable," you decide.
"Oh? If that's the case, there's a hardware store right at that block. They sell some nifty stuff like farming tools" Marcy points at the south direction.
And so, the two of us head towards there.
"Here it is," You stand at the front of a hardware store.
There are a few zombies at the front blocking the entrance unfortunately.
"Don't use your guns yet," Looking around the zombies are cluster on the entrance for some reason.
You grab a piece of stone and throw it at the lamppost; this causes a rattling sound that catches their attention. They stagger over to where the two of you are hiding.
When they are in range, you and Marcy smack them on the head, crushing and chopping them, respectively. Marcy is quite agile, able to avoid their grabs as she swings the hatchet to the back of their skull. You have been practicing with this crowbar for a while and are quite good at piercing the skull.
Although you lost count of how many times you missed swings or when the blow glanced off the head of a zombie, which was a close call. It turns out that the human skull is designed to deflect blunt **** trauma, and the crowbar can be tiring after a while, which is why you don't just smash every zombie you find.
One of them from afar starts sprinting wobbly.
"One of them is a sprinter!" Marcy whispers, but her tone has a bit of intensity.
"On it!" You grab on the end of the crowbar with two hands and swing it hard as it gets closer. You didn't hit its head but instead the shoulders to make it fall down. The Sprinter grunts as its head crashed to the hard floor.
Before it could get back up, you swing vertically, gravity helping your swing as you destroy the brain.
"Nice," Marcy grins as she grabs a protein bar after finishing her job.
"Ok, let's head inside," you gesture to the entrance.
"Block the entrance; we don't want them to get inside," you tell her, pointing at the bunch of debris and tables lying around.
After barricading, you're finally in the hardware store. You drink some water to cool off from all the workout.
"Well, this place has seen better days," you think. Objects are lying around, with the front shelf being empty. Someone must have gotten in here before. Hopefully, they didn't take all of the good stuff.
"Ok, be careful for any zombies; there might be some inside," you order Marcy. It might not have been necessary to say it, as that's obvious advice, but it's better to be reminded.
Now then, you have this place all to yourself for now. You might go to the tool section for some weapons.
"I found the tool section!" Marcy calls "And a few staggers here!" You heard a sound of an axe hitting flesh, so there are a few zombies roaming around.
You look at the back and see a lot of hand tools, axes, machetes and shovels, all of them are made for hard labor. Perfect for zombies since they would last longer and require little maintenance to keep the edge. There are other tools for construction too that would help if you bring it back at the base.
