Chapter 7
by DreamingSpace
What's next?
Go to the Security Office
You enter the soundproof security office tucked away in a remote corner of the building.
{if Vickers = 1}
Vickers is hard at work scanning video feeds and scribbling security reports on a clipboard filled with a thick sheaf of forms. "Those cameras still aren't up. Did you get a minute to look at them?"
{else}
The building's security officer is an elderly and extremely overweight man named Vickers. You're pretty sure that's his last name, you don't know if he even has a given name. His job is to sit in here and watch the security feeds from the various cameras around the office building. He has a taser and pepper spray, so you assume he would be called in to bust heads if anyone tried to steal the bagels from the C-Suite types. It's hard to imagine him doing that, though. He seems like someone's beloved grandpa, and seems to take seriously his job of keeping people safe.
He's reacted with real energy and courtesy the few times some of the women in the office have been worried about stalkers or dangerous ex-boyfriends. You know he can walk when he has to because he's insisted on providing escorts to and from their cars for as long as they've wanted it.
"Hey, Chris. You didn't lose your ID badge again, did you? They've got this new rule, if you lose your ID badge, I have to tell Human Resources. Then Gloria has to dock your pay, and it's twenty bucks! These things don't cost a dollar to make. Just a photo, and I set the permissions, and Bob's your uncle. They find a new way to screw us every month, I swear."
You reassure Vickers that you haven't lost your ID badge, and ask him how he's doing. He passes you a coffee from the station behind his desk. Vickers is indeed more important than you, but he has his own private bathroom and coffee machine so he doesn't leave his station for very long at a time.
"Listen, you wouldn't mind doing me a favor, would you? The security cameras out back have conked out. It's probably a loose cable, raccoons or something. I don't like that blind spot, though. There's that creek with all the trees around it that gets pretty close to the building. Somebody could use it to sneak up when an employee goes out back to smoke." You can tell Vickers is genuinely worried about this. "This office park is really out in the middle of nowhere. I'm just not a fan of being in the dark."
{endif}
It occurs to you that someone with access to Vickers' workstation could give your ID badge access to anywhere and everywhere in the building.
How do you handle this?

The Magic Returns
A sort of litRPG
You are minding your own business in the modern world, when you are imbued with supernatural powers. Use them for whatever purpose your imagination can devise. Probably trying to accumulate money and have sex, you filthy animals. I intend to see how far I can push conditional variables.
