The 50/50 Split

"Alright everyone, it is time to do a little checking out of our community and see what we can salvage either for ourselves or others" I say to them as they look at me hunkered down by the wall like cattle lined up for the kill.

"But..." Roger says.

Cutting him off with my hand I respond, "Roger, you need to heal and thus you need Margo to make sure you do. Cindy, you need to stay and make sure no harm comes to these two while we are split up."

"I do not know" Roger says but not feeling like he can change the situation he shuts up.

"That is the first good decision you have made" Margo says eying Roger and Cindy.

"I can take care of them, but how do we stay in touch with each other. You know, in case something happens while we are separated" Cindy asks?

Fishing out the hand-held I explain it has a two mile radius and is only to be used in an emergency.

With nods me and the twins take off to the north end of the mall, moving slow, measuring every shadow in the darkness. They seem pretty composed and are not being a problem at the moment that is why I took them.

After we halt at the exit doors, I push them open and we stride out into the darkness. Darla grabs my hand pulling me down as some shadow shifts by sluggishly in the distance. So we kneel together bodies pressed side by side, our breathing light as we scan the streets.

To the North there are some lights on in the old Shell Gas Station. The the East is an open field to the local high school and to the West the road continues to the highway.

"Well ladies, what is your pleasure" I ask the twins?
