...the wind began to pick up once again, battering Marie who had literally no protection at this point. Gritting her teeth, Marie continued forward toward the emergency door; there was nothing left to lose after all.
Unfortunately, there was. Marie felt a sudden jolt yank her off to the side. The wind was pulling at her bag! "Oh no you don't!" Marie shouted, reaching towards her poetry-filled parcel. "You may have taken everything from me, but you're NOT getting this!"
The wind was proving stronger though, levitating the bag higher, threatening to tear it away. Desperately, Marie jumped into the air, and luckily, she succeeded in retrieving it, clutching her bag to her bosom on the way down.
Not-so-luckily, her landing wasn't nearly as smooth. Her soaked, numbed feet slipped on the rain-slick surface, sending her tumbling forward in a roll towards an carelessly left open skylight panel. "OW! No, no no no no!" she screamed, trying to stop herself during the worst slip n' slide ride of her life.
But, both the roof and her body were essentially frictionless, layered in water as they were. And in no time at all, Marie was sent careening through the opening down into Junes.
"AHHHHH! OOF!" she screamed, having curled up into a ball around her bag during her drop.
Some luck was still on her side, as she had fortunately landed on her back and not her head. Marie felt the sensation of damp cloth around her, opened her eyes, and saw that she landed on a covered mattress. Turning upwards, she saw the open skylight above her; feeling only a fraction of the deluge from before. "Ugh," she groaned, stretching out and sitting up. "What kind of idiot leaves a skylight open during a storm like this?"
While appreciating the good luck she was having in that she at least was still alive, she wondered if that luck was holding as she belatedly realized just where she had landed. Her odds were looking...
