Chapter 150 by brevdravis brevdravis

Finishing touches

Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger...

"Ok, do you want me to tell you I love every bit of it, because I can." Lauren looked at Titania's expectant face after several bites of the cheeseburger.

"Ok, let's hear it. No matter how bad it is." Titania shrugged, munching on her own food.

"Little more confidence, girl!" Lauren smiled. "It's really good. Just... mind passing me the ketchup? Just needs a little less time on the grill for me."

"Thanks. Didn't know if your... girlfriend, I guess was going to be coming so I made one extra." Titania tried to think of how to phrase it. The usual term around school for this kind of thing was thruple, but it didn't seem to fit the way Viola acted around the two of them.

"Viola's... well, she's special to me and Lauren." Robin explained, passing the small finished piece of glass to Lauren.

She held it up to the nearby lamp, admiring the way the light shone through it. A slight frown crossed her face when she looked at the rings at the side of the piece.

"Darn, you... Ok, I thought you were going to make it with the loops on the short end. "

"Yeah, the piece was a lot longer than I thought it was going to be, and wouldn't work unless it goes lengthwise, as more of a wider bracelet."

"Oh, ok, I see... just going to have to put in a few spacers on the beads, what animal do you think she likes?"

"I know she likes cats too." Robin smiled.

"Daaaad, are you two getting romantic about a girl at dinner? Ugh... that is so gross." Miranda butted in with a groan. "She's like young enough to be my sister."

"And pretty enough too." Lauren ignored the jab pointedly. "Anyhoo. Yeah, I think I've got some little pieces that are nice and smooth." She ran her fingers over the edge of the metal encasing the glass. "Gonna take a file to a couple of these edges though, hope you don't mind. Long term they wouldn't feel good to wear. Think... might make it into a full band there..."

"Just whatever you do, don't turn it into a wonder woman bracelet." Robin admonished her with a grin.

"Oh but that's such a romantic story, and you've already got the kids and the break up part out of the way." Lauren noted the confused look on the younger girls faces and shook her head. "Threesome romance movie, you two probably weren't interested."

"Is that the one with the couple spying on the spanking sorority?" Miranda asked brightly.

"I officially don't wanna know." Titania groaned.

"Hand me my bag, please?" Lauren pointed towards a large bag which she had brought with her. It was large, orange, and filled with random spools of wire, fasteners, bead packets, and small tools.

The conversation changed to more mundane and commonplace topics as Lauren pulled a small row of beads from the bag inbetween bites of food.

"Here, gimme your wrist for a second." She gestured to Miranda, who extended her arm with a shrug. "You're about her size."

Lauren placed the beads on both sides of the younger woman's wrist, leaving a small gap.

"Thank you." She nodded, leaning back after taking quick note of the number of beads, She reached into her large shopping bag again, pulling open a small plastic divider, and dumping several excess beads back into it, before crimping the wire tight. Her hands pulled a small tray from the bag as well, and she began placing another color of beads alongside several small charms that seemed to resemble the claws of a cat done in silver plate.

"Just some random charms I saw a few weeks ago." Lauren noted as the girls looked on. "Dunno why I picked them up, so it's nice to have somebody to use them for."

"The burger was great, dude." Miranda tapped her sister on the back of the shoulder, and stood, grasping several of the now empty plates and heading into the kitchen. The sound of hissing water was soon followed by ceramic rattle and metal clunk as the dishwasher was loaded.

"That's really looking nice. Think you could make me one like that?" Titania asked, looking at her father and Lauren with a smile.

"Well, I still have some of that stone and metal if anybody else wants one." Robin suggested. "I have been looking for a project for a while. But I don't think you would look as good with black and red, kiddo."

"Awww... well what color would I look good with, herr art critic?" Titania smiled, watching Lauren continue to rapidly assemble beads and twist wires around charms. The piece was coming together rapidly, and the soft sound of scissors working on light cloth was almost hypnotic as Lauren snipped a piece of what looked like felt into place around some of the more pointed sections of metal.

"I think I've got a couple pieces of bronze slag." Robin thought about the deep blue mottled glass he'd found a long time back. It had been on a trip off base, and the guide had assured him that it was absolutely worthless, just old slag from an ancient factory. Not even really pretty to look at. Except he'd strongly disagreed, loving the deep blue color mixed with light whites in the glass. It hat been considerably harder to flake than the obsidian, but with enough time, he might be able to take a few files to it and shape it into something more useful.

"Slag, dad? You know that's a really not nice term in England." Titania observed.

"Oooh, that blue you were showing me?" Lauren nodded. "Heck yes, you can do something like this with that. I mean it won't look exactly the same."

"Ok, I'm trusting that you two aren't pulling a prank on me." Titania smiled. "Because that is really pretty looking."

"Thank you. Never understand why people think this is so hard. It's easy." Lauren's fingers continued to work, tightening metal and cloth together, before running it across the back of her hand several times.

"Feel that. That feel good for long term?" She asked each of the girls for their opinion, as well as Robin, who admitted that he was a terrible test subject, but went along with it anyway. The net result was that a couple small corners needed to be adjusted, a little tightening needed on the clasp, and a final filing of one sharp corner that could potentially hurt if things got flipped around. The only sharp edges were safely ensconced in metal, and the only way it could be actually dangerous was if someone were to actually try to break the piece.

Ten minutes later, the piece was placed on Viola's windowsill, along with two small notes for her return home. She had left it unlocked, and so there was no danger of the item falling to the ground, merely reach across, open, place, and shut.

The first note was in Robin's familiar script, the second, a small cat shaped post it note, with four words written on it.

Hope work wasn't too vexing! We made you this, and Dinner's ready if you want it!

I miss my kitty.

End of the day
