Chapter 15 by Split_Agony Split_Agony

What is wrong???

The hord is coming! You have to retreat

"I finally got in touch with HQ. The Capitol's been overrun," he says.

You shake your head.

"No, they're lying," you say. "They have to be."

"I don't think so. I lost radio contact with them an hour after the attack started," he says. "Worse yet, we're only a few days march from there. We'll be overrun soon, too."

"If the capital fell, we don't stand a chance," you say.

"Yes, I know. That's why we have to fall back and make a stronger defense," Captain Pacco says.

You hold your head in your hands.

"What about the King and the Royal Family?" you ask.

"I tried to get in contact with them, too. But they're probably dead," he says.

You sigh and shake your head.

"What do you want to do?" you ask.

Captain Pacco thinks for a moment.

"We'll pack up today and move out first thing tomorrow. It's not ideal, but we could hopefully make a better fight of it further south," Captain Pacco says.

"Yes, I suppose so," you say halfheartedly.

Your victories over the past few days suddenly seem hollow and meaningless. You can't believe you're fleeing your city, but you don't have much choice. It's not exactly a failure, just a retreat.

Everyone in camp gets to work packing what supplies you have into a mishmash of military and civilian vehicles for the trip. Much as you'll miss your sports car, it'll never make the cross country trip. Instead, you and your **** girls get to work packing what you can into a Humvee that Captain Pacco issues to you.

You spend the rest of the day and night packing, as you only have so much room in the covoy vehicles. It's a difficult task, but ultimately successful. You pack a few personal belongings, but mostly food, water, and ammunition.

By the time the sun comes up, you and your **** girls are ready to go.

"It feels good to be doing something. I just wish it wasn't this," Kylie says. "You know, running and hiding."

"Yeah...but we have eachother," you say.

Kylie smiles and shrugs. You all get into the convoy of vehicles, and begin heading out of the city. It's not long before the city disappears into the distance. The Tiger tank takes the lead, with a pair of armored vehicles at the rear. The mood is somber as everyone is thinking about what lies in store for you. The trip is made in relative silence.

You know the soldiers are doing their best to make everyone feel safe, but there's just something about being out in the open that makes you feel more ****. The undead could strike at anytime, anywhere.

Still, you can't dwell on such depressing matters, as you have to keep yourself and your **** girls strong for the long trip ahead.

"It's going to be okay, girls," you say.

Kylie and Felicity both smile and nod, though it's obvious they don't share your confidence.

The rest of the day passes without incident, and you camp out for the night in a secluded wood. A few tiny fires are lit and soldiers begin passing out rations.

"Hey, Drako! Captain Pacco wants that farmhouse up the road scouted. Might be some food. Want in?" Betty asks as you and your slaves are eating.

"Yeah, sounds good," you say, standing. "I'll be right back."

"Hurry back," Kylie says.

You walk over to your vehicle and grab your M16 before hopping in Betty's Humvee with her.

"So, what's it like having slaves?" Betty asks as she drives.

"Well, it's different," you say.

"How so?" she asks.

You pause for a moment, unsure of how to explain it.

"Well, you get BJs whenever you want," you say.

She playfully hits you in the shoulder.

"Hah, well that's certainly a perk," she says.

"Cuts down on housework, too," you say.

"Well hell, maybe I should look into it! I hate housework," Betty jokes.

You both laugh.

She cuts off the headlights as the Humvee pulls up to the farmhouse.

"Alright, serious time," she says grabbing her rifle and hopping out.

The two of you enter the farmhouse. You step lightly, trying not to make a noise. The house is dark and seems eerily quiet.

"Hear anything?" you whisper.

"Just the crickets," she replies.

You slowly move forward, your finger on the trigger. The interior of the farmhouse is dark, the only illumination coming from the moon streaming through the windows.

"Let's go," you say.

You move forward slowly, stepping through the foyer. You see a staircase to your left, and begin heading toward it in the darkness. You reach the bottom of the staircase, and there is a door to your right. You can hear the sound of a woman's sobbing coming from behind the door. You slowly put your hand on the door knob, turn it, and open the door. What you see takes your breath away.

What's behind the door?
