Chapter 13 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

How will you take care of the first floor security?

You'll follow Tschau's lead

You'd seen enough of Tschau's abilities by now that you couldn't second-guess her judgement on the best way to clear a room of hostiles. You figured you'd keep your valuable gadgets in storage for a bit and watch the master at work. Of course, the big question was how to even get inside without tripping some kind of alarm. No way was a guy like this going to have an unprotected outer parameter. Unfortunately, you didn't see any kind of scanning beam that looked exploitable by your hack-gun...

"Hmph... Despedida would have warned us if there was advanced security we need to watch out for, Ciao. Don't doubt your own team-mates. Even that bitch, Milaslava, probably would have mentioned something. We should assume whatever he had armed was enough of a non-consideration that they've already taken care of it," Tschau explained her logic, while raising one hand in an impatient gesture of "you see?" "Plus, even if an alarm did go off, I can handle any number of armed security. Don't underestimate me, Ciao."

You supposed that was a fair point, but it was quite a thing to just leave up to luck. You didn't know if your credibility as a handler was going to make it through this mission, if you kept allowing your agents to get away with endangering themselves so brazenly. The two of you snuck in through a large side gate, which opened into a vehicle hangar; the assortment of large, snow-faring machinery there, armored up so they were more like tanks than automobiles, provided a steady supply of shadows for the two of you to sneak through. {if Stealth Skill = 1}You'd always prided yourself on your ability to keep out of enemy sight, but you still found yourself sweating bullets from the sheer volume of enemies you were forced to dodge through. The only way you could make it through was to match Tschau's timing as she darted from shadow to shadow.{endif}

Finally, you reached the other side of the hangar and crouched in the darkness next to several fuel drums. You watched with wide eyes as she pulled out her ninjoto next. "Don't forget that our first mission is to clear the first floor, not just infiltrate it. All I've done is get us to an appropriate starting point. You handle this hangar and I'll clear out the rest of the floor. Don't let the hostiles get into their tanks, Ciao..." The woman pierced you with a glare form her unusual pink eyes, then quickly (and silently) dashed forward, flying around the corner. In the next instant, you heard a muffled cry and saw a spray of blood shoot from one side of the next doorway. Tschau was working fast...

... But you had quite a task ahead of you yourself. There were no less than six of Bortnik's white-clothed men, with the extra threat of two Deliverers standing in what you thought was dangerously close proximity to the fuel barrels given their propensity for fire attacks. {if Weakness for Video Games = 1}If this was a video game, you could simply shoot the barrels to ignite them and kill both in one shot, but you knew that causing an explosion right now was counter-productive the point of stealth.{endif} Rather than blow your cover, you resolved to stay in stealth and dispatch each enemy in the room. You were no slouch; it was slow work, but you managed to creep from target to target, silencing each enemy by placing your hand over their mouth and then delivering a single pistol shot.

The trouble came in with the last two... They were standing there unaware that you'd managed to kill all of Bortnik's men, still speaking in muttered English. Just as you were pondering stepping out from cover to rain bullets upon them, even if that meant igniting the barrels... the two fell over wearing stupefied expressions. Blood began leaking from the backs of their robes where two kunai blades were planted, one between the shoulder-blades for each of them. Tschau jumped down from the corner of the ceiling and sighed. "Too slow, Ciao. Don't operate so slowly. I already killed all the others..."

Shoot... You realized that in your panic, you'd killed all six of Bortnik's thugs. That probably meant that between the two of you, not a single one of the operatives was left alive. Seeming to sense the reason for your frown, Tschau watched your face and wiped blood from her blade with a small, black cloth. "Hmph. That's the form of my justice. Don't think it's as reckless as Au Revoir's. I don't take pleasure in it. I simply dispense it for the good of the world. Don't hesitate when you serve justice, Ciao; to do so is to defy justice," she explained at length, before turning to walk towards the same gateway she'd moved through earlier. You felt you were going to see a lot more evidence of her justice than just that blood trail she'd left earlier...

The two of you moved through an absolute bloodbath to rendezvous with Despedida.

What's next?
