The Republic troopers rushed into battle against the Imperial troops as the Sith commander prepared to assault the elite squad.
Havoc Squad's Counter Offensive
“Republic forces are falling back on all fronts, my lord,” the Imperial officer told Wes as he and his men continued their hunt for the elusive scientists. The soldiers made their way through the science wing, disposing of anybody not worthy of being captured.
“Wait, wait! I can help you!” a very scared scientist told the Sith in command.
“Is that so?” asked Wes as he looked at the scientist as he cowered beneath him.
“Y-yes! The artifact! I know you want it!” he stammered, his hands clutched together and shaking as he spoke. “A Jedi came and took it! He also escorted the scientists who found it to an emergency ship pad to escape!” he told the troops as they surrounded him.
“Hmm. That is rather useful information to have,” Wes said as he rubbed his chin.
“Wait, there’s more!” the scientist said as he threw his hands up to the Sith. “There’s an elite Republic Squad here! They’ve been tasked with stopping you at best and slowing you down at worst!” he continued. “S-so, h-have I earned my life?” he pleaded with the Sith Lord that towered over him.
“I see no reason to kill you,” Wes said as he turned to leave. “However, I’m not sure if you meet the requirements for the Imperial Military to hold you captive,” Wes said as he left the room.
“W-what?! Wait!” the scientist pleaded as he attempted to get up and chase the Sith.
“Blast him!” ordered the officer as his troopers followed their orders and fired on the scientist. The troopers then moved on in file as the body lay on the ground, smoke still rising from his body. The Imperial forces continued their march through the corridors with little to no resistance.
“My lord, do you think this Republic squad is really waiting for us?” asked the Imperial officer. As soon as he finished his question, blast doors suddenly came down, separating the two from the rest of the squad. Wes quickly ignited his lightsaber to deflect some blaster fire that came at him, unfortunately the commander was not so lucky and quickly fell to the enemy fire.
“We got the Imperial commander but the Sith is still up!” Lieutenant Jek Kardan shouted to Commander Malcom. The officer continued fire on the Sith but his shots were deflected as the Sith approached the lieutenant. “All troopers, open fire!” ordered Kardan as the rest of his trap sprung into action and fired on the Sith.
“Shit!” Wes let slip as he slowly became overwhelmed by the blaster fire that was coming from all directions. Wes jumped back and ran for cover as the blaster fire became even more intense.
“All troops, move in! We have the Sith cornered, let’s finish it off!” he ordered as his troopers began to close in.
“Foolish troopers. You face a Dark Lord of the Sith!” roared Wes as he threw his lightsaber around his cover and in a few moments heard the screams of men and women as they were cut in half by his blade. The Sith popped up from behind his cover and unleashed a torrent of Sith Lightning into the troops that did not get hit by his lightsaber. Wes finished the Sith Lightning right as his lightsaber returned to him.
“Fall back! Fall back to cover!” screamed Kardan as Wes began his offensive against the Republic troops.
“You overestimated your power, Republic scum. Now you shall die by my hands!” Wes shouted as he rushed the nearest troopers and slashed them in half. Lieutenant Kardan and what troopers he had left retreated through and opened the blast door before it sealed back up, trapping Wes in a section of the corridor.
“My lord, we need your assistance! These Republic Commandos are tearing through us!” a middle ranked officer pleaded with Wes.
“I’ll be there in a moment,” the Sith said as he walked over to the blast doors that separated him from his troops. He jabbed his lightsaber into the doors and began to cut his way through the doors. The metal of the doors slowly gave way to the power of the lightsaber as it melted through the heavy duty doors as Wes made a circular motion to form a passageway for him to get through. With the circle complete, Wes used the Force to throw the hulking piece of metal into the battle zone.
Wes stepped forward into the hallway where his troops had been cut off from him and looked around. He saw nothing but dead bodies strewn about. All of his troopers were dead but it seems they were at least able to take out a large portion of the attacking Republic troopers.
“Pathetic,” was all Wes could say before a barrage of blaster fire came his way. He was able to deflect the rapid fire bolts away from himself. The Sith glanced at the direction the blaster fire came from and saw an automated turret right before it began another round of blaster fire. Wes quickly deflected the blaster fire as he approached the turret. However, when Wes got close to the turret, legs sprung from the turret to allow the machine to retreat while firing.
“What?! Turrets don’t move!” said an astonished Wes as he threw his lightsaber at the fleeing turret, cutting the machine in two. “Since when do turrets move?” pondered the young Sith as he made his way to the turret. He examined the turret and saw some rather advanced circuitry in the turret. “Hmm. This seems like an advanced design. Or perhaps a prototype. Yes, I think so. It’s a little too rough around the edges to be a full production model. No, this is probably a live field test, if I would have to guess,” Wes said as he stood up. It was at that moment a holocall came through to him.
“Good guess, ugly!” The voice belonged to a young black human. He had a rather smug smile on his face. “I’m glad you were nice enough to volunteer your platoon for my latest design’s testing phase! Shame it didn’t stand up to you. But I got some valuable data from it. Don’t worry, next time my automated mobile turret will be able to best a Sith, and I’ll make sure you’re the one it’s tested on!” the cocky human said before he cut the transmission.
“Heh. It will be fun cutting down these pathetic troopers, one by one. But first, I need to find them,” Wes said as he turned and made his way back to the room where the trap was sprung. He brought out his blade and once again cut through the door to continue along the path to his main prey.
"Soon that artifact will be mine and you all will be dead," Wes said, fully aware he was being monitored by the Republic troops.
