Off to the movies

Matt didn't have to talk the whole drive to the movie theater. Amy handled that for him, going on about school, her upcoming surgery, her narrow defeat to Karen in the short gallop they'd raced that afternoon, her aspirations for making friends... both now and after she became perfect through surgery, and her mother's fights with her dad.

For the most part it was interesting and he made appreciative noises at appropriate moments. But when they parked, Amy abruptly turned to him. "So, what movie are you taking me to?"

"There's a horror flick starting in five minutes and a superhero movie starting in fifteen."

She pouted. "I'm afraid of horror movies."

"That's why you have a big strong male to protect you."

"You won't protect me tonight when I'm in bed."

"You wouldn't say that if I was dating other guys."

He shrugged. "Yeah, you're right. I can't help but that's the way I feel. Still, I want to make our relationship work."

"I want that too, Matt. I just worry that you'll decide I'm not worth your time when you've got Karen and April and Natasha and Tanya and maybe Ms. Chadra and that MILF bus driver and Wendy and... god, I don't know what other girls you're doing."

"I'm not doing any girls," he said. "I'm just friends with some. Same as I'm friends with you. Now, do you want to see a movie or should we go to Starbucks, grab a coffee and have a long talk about our relationship."
