Chapter 9
by Scribe Monk
Meet the Council, then the neighbors
Kalikori Village
Your time at the temple is short-lived. After meeting with Master Satele, you checked in with a med-droid, got yourself cleaned up, and got a new set of robes to wear. Then, you made your way to the Jedi Council Chambers.
In there, you gave your report on the Flesh Raiders’ attack on the Training Grounds, as well as your own suggestions on further actions. The Council, in turn, debated on what actions to take and how this threat might’ve grown.
In the end, they agreed it was a matter to be investigated and dealt with. Master Orgus himself volunteered to lead the mission, and then declared he’d have you as his apprentice.
Needless to say, it was a shocking turn of events that you were all-too overwhelmed with to react at first.
Afterwards, however, you met with him in his quarters, where he explained your role in the investigation. While he dug into the archives to search for anything that might point to the events transpiring, he wanted you to make contact with Kalikori Village, a nearby settlement of Twi’lek pilgrims.
Apparently, when they first arrived, they’d chosen to settle in the nearby mountains and ended up carving a home out of the fertile soil. Years passed and their village grew as more pilgrims arrived. Eventually, they needed to expand, and they chose to do so into Flesh Raider territory.
Now, with the sudden surge in the natives' aggression, they are in dire need of aid.
So, that about summed up the circumstances that now saw you making the trek up the mountains.
Upon arriving at the village, you study the village and its inhabitants. Twi'leks mill about, some stopping to watch you as you meander through their settlement. You give a timid wave to them before shuffling up to the main compound. The guards regard you with scrutiny, but make no move to stop you.
Inside, you find three Twi'lek, one of which is an older woman who wears an air of confidence and the aura of leadership. They all turn to you as you enter, to which you give a respectful bow.
"Greetings, matriarch." You take a solemn pose. "Master Orgus Din has sent me to help you fight the Flesh Raiders."
The matriarch sniffs. "So, the Jedi finally deign to recognize my people's suffering? How noble." She places her hands on her hips. "I'm sure this has nothing to do with the attack on your training grounds?"
You shift uncomfortably. "We had no idea how great of a threat the Flesh Raiders had become."
Your tone is apologetic and you try to appear as genuine as possible, yet the matriarch continues to glare. She gives spits one final barb before moving on to give her scouts' reports.
She agrees to help you, but only if you'll help defend the village. Just before she finishes her proposal, however, her speech slurs and she begins to wobble.
You make to catch her, but the woman beside her gets to her first.
"Mother, you need rest." She helps her stand. "Let me carry this burden for you."
The matriarch sighs and introduces the other two Twi'lek with her.
Her apparent daughter is Ranna Tao'ven, a yellow-skinned Twi'lek with a slim figure and soft face.
The man leaning against a nearby table is Scout Chief Moorint.
The matriarch then lets Moorint take over, having her daughter help her up to her room. The scout chief steps up to you then, and he's blunt with his elaboration.
Moorint doesn't care why you're here, or what you're after. All he cares about is that you share a common enemy. Since the Flesh Raiders have upgraded their arsenal, they've hunted and slaughtered his people. However, he claims that they've discovered where the natives are stashing their gear, a cave in a nearby valley.
The plan is simple enough: get in, destroy their stashes, and get out.
However, Moorint claims to that destroying the gear won't be enough.
"We need to strike fear into the Flesh Raiders." His hands ball into fists. "Sabotage their weapons. Fix it so that they blow up in their ugly faces."
He crosses his arms as Ranna returns, pointing a disturbed look in his direction.
"How would we do that?" She asks.
He shrugs and claims the weapons are Republic-designed, and therefore share the same internal systems. He moves over to a table and pulls out his own blaster, dismantling it to show you and Ranna how to cause the power circuits and plasma coils to overload.
You ask several questions about the process, which he answers. Ranna remains quiet beside you, her brow furrowing.
Just before you head off, she speaks up, "Wait!" You stop and turn to her, along with Moorint. "If you salvaged enough of their weapons, we could use those to defend the village."
You open your mouth to speak, but then close it. She has a point, but so does Moorint. Reinforcing the village would surely keep them safe, but kicking the Flesh Raiders where it hurt could deter their offensive in turn.
In the end, you choose to leave it up for when you actually get to the stash.
Helping out the pilgrims
