He does what is right.

John gathered his resolve, and his divorce papers and texted Jennifer, asking to meet. He agreed to meet anywhere that she wanted to.

They met at an Italian place for lunch, and when he saw Jeniffer, he couldn’t miss that she was wreck. He had not seen her in this state once since he had known her. Her hair was not well kept, her nails were not done, and she didn’t look like she has been sleeping much at all. That made two of them.

“John, thanks for coming, I missed you, I missed you so much,” Jennifer said. There was no happiness, no joy. Only sadness.

Her eyes were red, she had been crying, also something she wasn’t alone in. This had been tough, she was the love of his life, she was all of the joy he had known.

“I missed you too Jennifer, I am sorry for how things have been,” he took her hand as he said this.

This gesture seemed to open a flood within her, you started crying at just the touch.

“I was so stupid John, I was so stupid,” she said lightly through her tears. “ I know I was bad, and I know I don’t deserve you, I wondered if I would ever see you again.”

John’s heart broke a bit, he could see how damaged she was by all of this. In all of what she did, John knew she didn’t mean to hurt him.

Now she understood, but could he trust her?

“Are you still working at Hooters?” He asked, sure that she was.

“I’m not working right now, I lost the job at Hooters,” she replied. “When I reported Steve and pressed charges, they closed the strip club. A bunch of managers and bouncers got arrested, some dancers as well.”

“Holy shit, she burned it down,” John thought, Steve might be headed to prison.

“How are you getting by?”

“Jasmine, a friend from school is putting me up,” she replied. “I am looking but I don’t have a job, I might go back home.”

“And live in that trailer again?” John asked, “There has to be another way.”

“I could move and dance, in another city,” Jennifer replied, “But you are here, and I am not doing that anymore.”

“I get it now John, I get all of it,” she replied. “I really was stupid with Steve, with all of them.”

“That is a lesson I won’t have to learn again.” She said, somewhat defiantly.
