Link manages to escape by himself, and quickly finds another Hylian wolf running around: Zelda.

As much as it would be a boon to Link to be able to communicate with the other wolves, he was rightly scared of tapping too much into his inner wolf to try it. Instead, he decided to go with his initial plan. Waking up long before any of the other animals, Link positioned himself near the door, and as soon as someone opened the door first thing in the morning, with most of the other wolves still asleep, Link ran through the opening, startling the servant carrying their food for the day so much he fell over.

At least being able to use his sense of smell and excellent hearing, combined with his Hylian intelligence, Link managed to stay uncaptured for the rest of the day. There were a few close calls, but soon Link was able to successfully escape the Twili palace altogether, and retreat to the same woods he'd first entered this world in, via portal.

But the second he reached those woods, he smelled something. Or rather, someone. Their scent was a little different from how he'd smelled it the last time he was a wolf, but it was also clearly recognizable. It was Zelda. After using his nose to track her, he soon saw her. As he'd feared, she'd also been turned into a wolf. Her fur was of a lighter hue than his, and she was clearly a female wolf. They came closer, and without words to communicate, they still made clear to the other that they knew who the other was. Reunited, they were still trapped in the Twilight Realm, unsure what to do.
