Chapter 23 by carnivorous cow carnivorous cow

How will Druuna get the money?

Work at the Inn as a barmaid.

Druuna pondered her position for awhile. She didn’t have nearly enough caps to join, and it seemed like a dangerous idea to…sell herself at the docks. Eventually she decided on a better plan of action than the one offered by the old man at the guildhall. Retracing her steps, Druuna whistled happily as she walked back to the Lusty Mermaid inn. She entered the slowly filling inn and walked upto the innkeeper, who greeted her, saying “Back already? Couldn’t you find the guildhall?”
Druuna frowned and shook her head “I did, thanks to your directions, but they wouldn’t let me in without a fee that I couldn’t afford.”
The large man nodded, saying “Oh, so you were looking to join? Well that’s too bad. Is there something else I can help you with?”
Druuna smiled at the man and replied “Yes! There is something you can help me with. I was wondering if you were looking to hire any servers for your bar? I’m looking for a way to make enough bottle caps to pay the fee.”
The innkeeper nodded and got up “Maybe I could find some work for you. Follow me to my office.”.

Druuna followed the innkeeper to a small, green walled office with a desk and a couple of chairs. She sat on one side and the innkeeper sat on the other. He looked at Druuna for awhile, not saying anything, until he suddenly asked her “So you think you want to be a server at the bar?”
Druuna nodded and said “Yes sir, I would very much like to be a server here.”
The innkeeper smiled and said “Alright then. My name’s Walter Mimflin and I’m the owner of this establishment. We mostly cater to sailors and pirates here. Let me ask you, do you have a house in Greenport?”
Druuna shook her head “No Mr. Mimflin, I don’t.”
Walter nodded “Didn’t think so. Alright, I can set you up with a small room in the basement for a bit off of your pay, I do this with any server who doesn’t have a house. You’ll be paid twelve caps an hour, minus six caps for the room. That’s six bottle caps an hour, twelve hours a day., six days a week. You should be able to make all the caps you need for your guild entry in one working week, but let me warn you, it’s hard work and I can’t afford to let you slack off. Will this work for you?”
Druuna thought about it for awhile and nodded “Uh-okay, sure.”
Walter smiled and said “Good. Just a few more things before I can let you join. Take off your clothes.”
Druuna did a double take “Wha-What?! Why?”
Walter sighed “Two reasons. First of all; as I said, most of the clientele are sailors and pirates. The want servers with large endowments. I need to make sure your not padding your chest. Second of all; I can’t be having addicts working for me. Mary’s Blood addicts come in here sometimes, trying to get a job to buy **** with. I can’t have that. Addicts show up late for work, steal store property, yell at customers and get into fights with the other servers. I want to make sure you don’t have any injection marks on you.”
Druuna nodded “A-All right I understand.”

Druuna got up off the chair and untied her shoes, then took them off. Then she slid her hoses off and laid them in a pile. Druuna then unbuckled her belt and unzipped her shorts and pushed them both down. Finally, she pulled her shirt over her head and stood nude before Walter. “W-Well, what do you think mister Mimflin?”

Walter got up and studied Druuna carefully, checking her for marks on her legs, thighs, arms and bottom. Eventually he sat back down and smiled at Druuna “Alright, you look clean enough to me. Go ahead and put your clothes back on.”
Druuna blushed and smiled thankfully “Th-thank you sir.”

Druuna quickly changed back into her clothes and sat back down in front of the innkeepers desk. The innkeeper smiled and said to her “Alright then. I’ll show you where you’ll be sleeping in a minute, but first some information on the job. You’ll start tomorrow, and you’ll have to wear the uniform that will be provided for you. You’ll get paid a wage as I told you, but the real money comes from tips. Smile at sailors, flirt with them, bring them their food and drink quickly and they’ll probably give you a good tip. Don’t ignore customers or get in arguments, anyone gives you trouble, tell me or the bouncer. He’s always over by the doors and he keeps an eye out for the servers at all times. Understand?”
Druuna said yes, and Walter showed her to her room.

It was a small closet with a straw bed and a tiny metal locker for her to put her clothes in. The door locked from the inside incase she “ever needed to escape” as the innkeeper told her.

Druuna had a small meal of stew that night, and went to bed early, as she’d need to be well rested for her first day of work the next day.

First day of work.
