Chapter 17
by carnivorous cow
What happens to Druuna next?
She walks on and reaches a city.
Druuna continued walking on through the forest until the sun finally dragged itself sluggishly out over the horizon. Druuna found a small log and sat upon it. She opened a sack she had attached to her belt and opened it up. Inside were a few weeks worth of hard, dry bread and plastic tubes of tasteless grey meat. Druuna enjoyed a nice, if unappetizing meal of water from her canteen and dry travel rations that morning.
With her breakfast done, Druuna closed her ration package and continued on through the woods. Several hours after noon she noticed the forest beginning to thin out and become gently rolling hill land. Hours after that, Druuna caught sight of a most welcome sight. Far off in the distance, Druuna could make out the walls of a large city. The hill lands soon gave way to acres of farmland and Druuna could better see the city ahead of her. The walls of the city were made of recycled car parts and sheets of steel. When Druuna came to the city gates she found them guarded by two heavy built men in bullet proof vests and oddly shaped iron helmets.
Druuna smiled to them and said “Hello there sir. I am a traveler in this region, and was wondering what city this might be?”
One of the men, a muscular man with a gruesome looking scar over his left eye smirked at her and replied “Heh, this is Greenport. All travelers are welcome here. But you got to pay the fee to get into the city, missy.”
Druuna tilted her head to the side and asked “A fee? How much is it?”
The other guard; busy ogling Druuna’s ass, responded “Huh? Oh, well the-ah city is a big trading port for this-uh region, so we charge travelers in exchange for a citizenship card. It’ll allow you to come here again without uh ch-charge. It’s thirty-five bottle caps.”
The first guard put his hand on the other guards shoulder and said “Of course there is more than one way to pay for a pass, honey. The city gives the guard troop the right to give citizenship cards to travelers who provide necessary services.” with that the guard winked in a manner that Druuna understood quite well. She looked at the man and asked him “And how…extensive would such services need to be?”
He laughed and responded “Oh not much, not much. We have real use for someone with a talent with words. Someone who can….use their mouth. Two sessions of that I would think would be worth thirty-five caps.”
What does Druuna do?
