School time!

“You sure you’re feeling ok, Jade? I mean, you don’t look as tired as yesterday, but still...”

“I’m fine, Selene! Don’t worry about it.”

After saying that, as if to contradict herself, Jade chose that time to give a huge yawn. She’s certainly gotten more rest this time, but a girl still needed her beauty sleep, damn it! Stupid deal, stupid Jason, stupid 12am punctual fu—

“Well,” Selene continued, breaking Jade’s train of thought as she fixed Jade with a doubtful look. “If you say so. You’re a strong girl, Jade. If anyone can pull through, it’s you.”

The two girls had met up on their morning walk to school. Even though Jade was tired right now, she was grateful for Selene’s company, and took strength in the solace she provided.

“You’ve noticed it too, right, Jade?”

“Hmm? What?”

“Jason and his cronies...they’ve been leaving Mike alone lately.”

“Yeah, of course I know...”

“I think something’s up. No way they just decided to just leave him alone like that. Mike wasn’t their favorite target for nothing, you know.”

“Maybe they found someone else to bully? Either way, I’m just grateful that Mike isn’t being bullied.”

“Hmm...yeah, maybe. But, still...hey, Jade?”

“What’s up?”

“Did you make a deal with them? Or with Jason? Did you, like, offer yourself as collateral?”

Jade struggled to contain her shock. Selene got it right on the money! How was she so sharp?
