While working on the project, Jade felt a vibration in her pocket, and checked her phone to see that Mike was calling. Without hesitation, she picked up the call.
“Hey, babe!” Jade said
“Hey. How are you feeling, Jade? Are you feeling better? Is Jason treating you well?” Mike asked. That sweetheart was still worried about her...
“I’m fine, Mike, thanks.” If it were anybody else, Jade would have stepped aside to answer the call to be polite, but since it was Jason, Jade felt defiant and had no compunction to do so.
Speaking of Jason, he said nothing, keeping a face of polite interest as he listened to what Jade was saying to Mike.
Jade continued to talk to Mike, hanging up after Mike told her he was preparing something for her tomorrow. Soon after the call, Jade received a selfie of Mike, showing him in the kitchen preparing a tonic or soup of some sort. Jade’s heart fluttered at the sight of her boyfriend doing something so nice for her.
Then the moment was ruined. Jason snatched the phone out of Jade’s grasp, and looked at the photo. “Hmm...so. That guy can cook, huh?” Jason eventually said.
“Yeah. In case you didn’t know, Mike has wonderful talents that you’ll never have,” Jade replied acidly. “Give me my phone back now!”
“Sure. Mind you, that statement goes both ways. I can do things that he can never do...” Jason said cryptically.
“Like what?”
“Oh, I don’t know. Why don’t you tell me?”
Jade turned back to the project with a “hmph”, and the two continued working. If only Jade were thinking clearly at the time, she might have realized something was up.
She might have stopped to question, did Jason seriously snatch her phone just to see Mike cooking? Alas, she was angry at the time, and failed to realize what Jason had seen, or even realize that he had seen something...
