A good drill

In the first two weeks, you feel as you were on the verge of passing out every time that the heavy exercises come to an end. After the first month, the muscular soreness and the lack of serious improvements make you feel like you are just wasting your time. Paradoxically, at this point, only the determination of your brother and the **** of will of your heart gives you the strength to go on, contrasting the advice coming from your brain. On the third month, finally, you see some concrete result for your efforts. In a few weeks, your body is already shaped differently; your shoulders are larger, your chest more solid and your arms considerably bigger. Even the muscles in your legs and abs feel differently. So far as the combat part, you have learnt how to dodge, retreat and attack, which are the basic boxing skills. On the wrestling side, you know, theoretically, how to flatten an opponent and block him (or her) down. The low kicks have become probably your favourite fight move and you are looking forward to putting it in practice. Matt has been a good coach. You have realized only trough this experience how strong he is, physically and technically. He could have had a future in that field if only wanted. When Grace calls - a bit later than expected - you feel ready. The girl bades you to come in a gym nearby, where you've been granted an exclusive use for sunday morning. You promise to be there on time.

It was boring, but necessary.
