Sunset Ridge

"Let's do the ridge." You say.

"Awww....can't handle the trees, little Jack?" She mocks you in a childish fashion. You give her a quick glare, the push her over. She lets out a surprised whoop and falls onto her side into a big pile of snow. You laugh as the white powder covered her body. "You JERK!" She yells from the ground. "That wasn't cool!"

"You're right. I bet it was downright FREEZING!" You laugh again and hold out your hand. Reluctantly, she took it and you help her back up onto her skis. She shakes the snow off and gives you a funny look.

"You'll pay for that." She says and immediatly begins to ski off toward Sunset Ridge. You laugh and follow her there. The trail begis easy enough, with a slight downhill slant to build some speed, but it soon becomes both twisty and steep. Before you know it, you're both skiing faster than you remember being able to go. Part of you wants to slow down, but another part doesn't want to lose to Melody.

She is laughing and having a ball, though. The two of you continue to trade off the lead, each barely beating the other one for a matter of seconds before switching off again. You're having such a good time, you don't notice how dangerous it's getting. That is until you look down and see you're skiing right on the edge of the ridge. And it's a VERY steep drop down the side of the mountain. You immediatly ski back to ward the center of the trail. Melody dashes ahead of you with a "HAHA!" and moves to the outside of the ridge for an incoming turn.

"WATCH OUT!" You yell over to her past the shipping wind. "IT'S A STEEP LEDGE!"

"OH, YOU'RE TRYING TO SCARE ME NOW?" She laughs back at you. "UNLIKE YOU, I'M NOT A PUS-" her words die off into a shriek as the snow under her skiis crumbles away and she tumbles over the side of the Sunset Ridge.

"Melody!" You scream as you watch her disappear from sight. A million horrible thoughts rush through your head as you try and figure out what to do.
