Chapter 21 by tailteller

What did she draw?

He couldn't even guess

In minutes she'd drawn several doodles of machines and circuits. He tried to make sense of it, but between how sloppily she'd drawn and how odd it all looked he couldn't wrap his head around it. She blinked a pale yellow color and grabbed the tablet, drawing one piece at a time for him. Some sort of speaker, if he read the diagram right, and a helmet? Maybe, but there were tubes, and some weird chemical compound next to it.

He had no idea what that meant. He erased it for her and drew a number one. Her spots faded into white, and she drew just the speaker, next to a doodle of a head. Headphones! He stood up and grabbed an old pair he used for games and porn now and then, and when she shimmered blue and trilled he took it as an affirmation and set them on the ground.

Then he put a second line, for two. She slowly drew a helmet, and he shook his head. "I haven't had a helmet for a long while."

She flickered white. He drew an 'x' over the picture. She huffed, and looked at the plastic band on the headphones. Then she drew that, and several holes and tubes, all leading into the bath tub with a strange spherical thing inside. He circled it, hoping she would understand. She seemed to, and again drew the chemical chain. He'd need someone who could read that...and calling Lee would certainly bring up the botched engine diagram before he was ready to explain how he had come to that idea.

He took the tablet to his desk instead, and after nearly an hour managed to figure out that it was some odd combination of saline, chlorine, flouride, and adenosine which he consequently learned was responsible for the speed at which someone learns things. There were tablets and pills available, but only by prescription. That wouldn't be easy to get. At all.

Does he tell her he can't, or determine to find a way?
