Close call

An eternity passes in a moment, as the trooper goes by you slowing but not stopping. Your hands twitching, you fight the impulse to stick your hand in your jacket pocket, retrieving the pistol you acquired. Evidently the trooper decided you were harmless, and he starts to accelerate and you watch his tail lights vanish into the night.

You legs feel like rubber, and you collapse to the ground your whole body shaking. Breathing hard, shaking uncontrollably, you sit there for several minutes an eventually you get yourself back under control. Getting back to your feet, you head to the crossroads getting there in a little bit over an hour.
