Peaceful...but...

Courtney is having a blast on the carousel, laughing an shrieking happily. She had chosen a unicorn to ride as it was her favorite. You stood on Courtney's left, while Kathryn on her right watched all the kids around her to the best of her ability. Tommy and Jeremy had sat down in the sled seats behind you and Courtney.

Whenever you look over your shoulder, Jeremy is looking at Courtney with a confused look on his face. You know that look, having seen it in his father whenever he watched Janice doing her cheers in high school.

At the third rotation you think you see a crowd forming at the entrance to the carousel. At the fourth go round you are definitely aware of a lot of teenagers standing at the entrance, and it looks like they were holding some fruit in their hands.

The scene has you worried, and you quickly unbuckle Courtney to her dismay, and set her in the sled seats beside Jeremy. Tommy looks at you and nods his head indicating that he had seen what you saw. Jeremy, not sure what is going on just puts his arm around Courtney. Courtney gasps at the action, but smiles.

Kathryn looks to you quizzically, "What's going on Tommy? John is something wrong?"

"There's a group of teens...there..." You say pointing at the large crowd of kids. As if you pointing were a signal the kids let loose with the fruit.

You grab Kathryn and pull her behind the sled as Tommy leans over and protects Jeremy and Courtney. The kids are shouting now, and egging the throwers on.

You sneak your head around to get a peek at the little brats. You see some of them have their cell phones out and were taking pictures, and then you are all around and out of their view again.

The operator had now stopped the carousel, and seemed to be in the process of calling for help.

Tommy looks at his shirt, which was smeared with tomato juice, and shakes his head. "Those little twerps..."
