Chapter 9 by Felix715 Felix715

Go along or reconsider?

Go along with the lessons.

Iris decides to stick with the plan in motion. Her father may be a scoundrel but he did teach her a thing or two over the years. If need be, she could acquire a set of clubs one way or another.

Arthur stops by a closet, locked with a simple number combination. After punching in a few digits, he pulls the door open and grabs a bag stuffed with multiple clubs. "Here, try this." He says passing it to her.

Iris takes it by the strap and throws it over her shoulder. A little hefty but not too bad, she thought. "Ok. Let's go."

"No, no." Arthur chuckles. "Take one out and hold it next to yourself. Let me see if they are the correct size for you."

"Oh!" Iris hadn't even thought of that. Setting the bag down, she pulls a club from the bag, one with a big wooden head on the end, and holds it next to her.

"Like this." Arthur places a hand on top of her own and another on her hip. His touch was firm but gentle and a warm feeling crawls up Iris' spine. Holding the club next to her leg, to judge it's length compared to her body, Arthur looks her up and down. Iris doesn't even notice how she lightly squirms in his hands. "Maybe a little tall for you." He says, taking the club from her to return it to the bag. "Try these." He instructs passing her another set from the closet.

With an idea of how this works, Iris pulls a new club from the set and stands it next to herself. Standing proud with back straight, she gives the boy a little pose. "I think these are the ones. Do I look good?" She jokes, trying to get Arthur to notice her more than the clubs.

He eyes her up and down once more, his gaze lingering on her legs and hips. Sensing an opportunity, Iris twists just a little to help grant him a glimpse of how nice her rump looks in the skirt. Arthur's eyes perked up a little and he swallows noticeably. "Yeah... I think that's the set for you." He coughs lightly to clear his throat that seems to have gone a little dry.

Iris returns the club to the new bag and places the sling over her shoulder while Arthur secures the closet. The two exit out a door and make their way to the driving range. "The most important thing to know is balance. You can't perform a proper swing without it. Stand with your feet level to your shoulders and don't lean forward or back." Arthur suggests. "Next, you want to start the swing with your body. Not your hands, not your arms." He pauses. "Remember, until you get your swing down, take it slow. You have to relax and shift your weight properly. Form is more important than power."

Iris listens to his instruction. She may not find it fascinating but she knew she needed to play along. "So, how do I... Hold it?" She tried to sound a little suggestive.

"Oh... Um... I can show you once we get there." Arthur says.

The driving range isn't far from the athletics bidding and they arrive shortly. The tee boxes were shaded, underneath a stretch of canvas, and short red brick walls segregating each. Facing away from the school, a long field of immaculate green reaching out to a line of trees in the distance with a few small signs posted to measure distance scattered about. Iris props her bag against a wall, looking out across the range. "So, Arthur, where do we begin?"

"With your first question." Arthur smiles, pulling a pair of clubs from the bag. "Proper grip. Like this." He holds his club in two hands, extending it out for Iris to inspect. She tries to emulate his hands. "Here." He lightly adjusts a few of her fingers and a thumb. "That's it. Just like so." Arthur stands in the tee box, shift his weight from side to side adjusting the position of his feet before he lines up the head of the club to the tee. "A good stance is the next step." Twisting at the hips, Arthur draws back his club slowly. "A nice smooth motion, don't jerk. Then a proper follow-through." He swings in slow motion to show Iris how it is done. "Now you try." He steps back clearing the way for her to approach.

How does the first lesson go?
