“Why don’t we play Sardines?”, you suggest.
Gordon winks at you and says archly, “Sardines? I don’t think I’ve played that. How does it work?”
You wink back. (Did Melanie wink as well?) Putting on your best Toastmasters Formal Voice, you announce:
“The rules are, one of us goes off first to hide where he or she wishes, in any room in the house, and that person must stay there. If anyone else finds them, they stay there till everyone else has found them.
But if two people bump into each other, the must stay together for ten minutes before continuing the search. If someone joins those two during the ten minutes, a new ten minutes starts all over, and so on.”
Gordon can’t wait - “And what you can achieve in ten minutes is your own business!”
You stride over and give Gordon a mock glare. “For that, Gordon, you must go....”
“Ah-ah-ah!” says Melissa, the order is to be picked at random.
The lots are drawn, and Gordon, Melanie, Anita, Melissa and Martin have left in that order.
Your turn comes, and you head up the stairs. The landing is lit only by three candles - in the half-light, you can see two doors on either side, and one straight ahead.
Your heart pounds at the thought of sharing some time with any of your ‘prey’. You pass the first door on the left and reach for the handle of the second.
All is dark as you slip inside, and then you touch someone.
