Are things finally starting to look up?
All her clothes are destroyed. Bummer.
Day 31
Dear diary,
Today was the worst day so far. A water pipe broke and spewed water all over my room while I was in the kitchen. Even worse, it was the waste pipe. My whole wardrobe is ruined and my room smells like a sewer. Luckily we had a break today, no guests left and the next ones aren't due to show up for another day. Miss Jean and I tried to save something but it's all gone. I cried and cried, filth stuck in my hair and on everything I owned. Miss Jean just rocked me softly and promised she would make it all better. I appreciated that. I clung to her, even.
Tomorrow she's taking me to the village, she rush ordered whatever was on hand at the next town (Faveyrolle doesn't have a clothing store) and we're going to pick it up. The only things that were saved were my maid's uniform and my bikini and heels, which I'd been keeping in the kitchen in a locker. My mind is a blur right now, and only Miss Jean seems to care about me. No one has sent a passport. Not a card, not even a call of 'where are you?' I was supposed to be back a week ago, and only Miss Jean is willing to help me. I owe her so much already.
Tonight she promised she would help me get back to the US once I worked off the debt I ran up. It may take a while since she can only afford to pay me about 50 Euro a month, but if nothing else comes through, hopefully soon enough I will be able to get the money for a plane ticket back to my luxury apartment. Looking around at the makeshift bed I'm sleeping in now in the middle of nowhere in rural France, it seems so far away.
What kind of clothes does Ms Jean order for her?
