Take Wonder Woman up on her offer?
No, but Wonder Woman is persistent
I was this close to talking myself into accepting Wonder Woman's offer, but something about the way she was looking at me made me wary. Even if it wasn't technically going to be a date, going out for dinner with a gorgeous woman felt a little too much like cheating to me, and I was trying my best to be a good boyfriend for Kara. Not to mention I had just gotten off of work, so I was tired and wearing clothes reeking of sweat and grease, neither of which made me feel ready for any kind of dinner date.
For those reasons, I ended up saying, "That's really nice of you, but, uh, I don't think tonight's good for me."
Wonder Woman frowned in disappointment, and for a moment I thought she'd leave without another word. Instead she looked behind me and said, "Well I think I made you miss your bus, so at least let me fly you home."
I turned around just in time to see the bus I had been planning on catching pull away from the stop. Fantastic. My poor feet already dreading the thought of having to walk all the way to Supergirl's apartment, I sighed in resignation and said, "Alright, yeah, that'd be fine."
Before I even had a chance to fully turn around, I was swept off my feet by Wonder Woman. Her arms felt more muscular than Supergirl's, but were still recognizably feminine. As she left the ground and started to fly, I reflexively wrapped my arms around her neck.
Wonder Woman looked down at me, her brow raised, "What are you doing?"
"Oh, uh, sorry," I said, quickly letting go of her, "It's how I fly with Kara. It's... well, she told me it's more comfortable for me that way."
"I don't think it'll be necessary with me," Wonder Woman said, "But if it'll make the trip more comfortable for you, feel free."
I kept my hands in my lap. Now that I was aware of what I did, it felt sort of wrong to have my arms around another woman like that. Hell, I was already starting to regret letting Wonder Woman fly me home. As ridiculous as it might sound, I though of my flights with Kara as something special, and it felt like I was betraying her by letting another heroine fly me home like this. Even the knowledge that Supergirl was likely carrying some random Japanese dude in her arms in this exact way at this very moment without a second thought didn't make me feel much better. Speaking of flying me home though...
"Hey, um, I'm staying with Kara right now," I mentioned, "So you should probably take me to her place. Do you know where it is?"
"I do," Wonder Woman answered with a nod, "I've actually been there a few times myself."
"So you two are close?" I asked.
"I did train her in combat," she said, "So yes, I would say we have a close relationship."
"Whoa, seriously? That's pretty cool," I said, "Though I always figured she didn't really need that sort of thing since she had, you know, super strength."
"I have superhuman strength as well," Wonder Woman pointed out, "As do many of our enemies. Yes Kara's strength may be greater, but one of the first things most superheroes learn is that raw strength isn't everything. While it is definitely helpful, skill is a far more useful tool in combat. That's why I can still likely beat her in a fight despite technically being weaker than her."
"Yeah, I guess you have a point there," I admitted, "After all, Batman with enough prep time could beat anyone, right?"
Wonder Woman rolled her eyes at this, "He'd certainly have you think so. Personally I think that's a gross exaggeration of the truth."
"Really?"
Wonder Woman nodded, "I will admit, Batman is one of the most skilled combatants Man's World has to offer, and should not be underestimated. But even he has his flaws and weaknesses. Like anyone else, he can be defeated by someone who knows how to exploit them."
I furrowed my brow in thought, "Huh... wait, are you saying you could beat Batman in a fight?"
"Perhaps," she answered with a sly smile, before adding, "Oh look, it seems like we've arrived."
And indeed we had. Like Supergirl usually did, Wonder Woman pushed open the skylight with her foot and descended into the apartment. Once she landed, she gently set me down on my feet and stepped back. After seeing that she seemed to be waiting on me, I muttered, "Uh, thanks for flying me home."
"It's no trouble at all," she replied with a smile.
The two of us just stood there in silence for several awkward seconds. I had expected her to say goodbye and leave, but she was just... standing there. Her smile faded as the silence grew, apparently feeling nearly as awkward about the situation as I did. Not wanting to sound rude but hoping she'd pick up on the hint, I said, "So, um, I think I'm going to take a shower. It's been a long day and..."
"I think you smell fine," Wonder Woman quickly said, "More than fine, really."
"Uh, okay..." I said with a wince, "But I still feel greasy and dirty, so, um.... maybe you should... you know..."
This made her frown, "Right, I suppose it'd be best if I left. It was nice meeting you, Charlie."
"Yeah, you too," I told her, and with that, she flew back out of the skylight, closing it behind her. For a moment I ogled the view of her spandex-clad butt, but immediately felt a pang of guilt when I realized what I was doing.
"Dammit, get a hold of yourself," I muttered, "You're not single anymore."
Now feeling dirty both physically and mentally, I grabbed a clean set of clothes and high-tailed it to the shower.
Nearly an hour later, I was dressed in a t-shirt and sweats, lounging on the couch and watching The Black Freighter movie on Kara's plasma screen TV. It was actually kind of nice to have the evening to myself, even though I couldn't help but briefly check on the Japan situation before I got comfortable. It seemed like Superman and Supergirl had it handled though, so I was less concerned about her safety than the very likely possibility that it would be just me and this fantastic home theater system all alone for the rest of the night. Sadly, yet again things couldn't just stay that simple for me.
I was mildly startled by the sound of the skylight opening behind me, and paused the movie to greet who I assumed was my girlfriend. Once I turned around though, I was much more severely startled by the realization that Wonder Woman had returned, this time holding a large pizza box in one of her hands as if she were a delivery girl from a superhero themed pizzeria.
"Sorry to drop in unannounced, Charlie. But after I left, I realized I could still get you something to eat even if you didn't feel like going out. I didn't know what you liked though, so I hope pepperoni's okay."
"Uh, yeah that's fine," I said as she set the box on the coffee table, "Thanks."
"It's the least I could do after I harassed you earlier," she said, grabbing a pair of plates and serving up two slices of pizza. Sitting down next to me, she looked at the TV with a smile, "Ooh, I don't think I've seen this one before! You're not too far in, are you? Would you mind if I...?"
"H-Hold on a minute!" I said, standing up, "I don't want to be rude, but shouldn't you be off doing... Wonder Woman things?"
"I have nothing urgent to deal with," she replied with a frown, "Charlie... do you not want me here?"
"Well... I... not really..." I mumbled. I knew I should have been more forceful with her, but give me a break, this is Wonder Woman we're talking about. The very thought that I could **** her to leave if she was insistent on staying was laughable to me.
"Is that you talking, or your loyalty to Kara as a boyfriend?" she asked, "Because I know Kara well enough to say that she wouldn't mind if I was here when she got back."
"Even alone with her boyfriend?" I asked.
"Trust me, it'll be fine," she assured me, "I've been meaning to catch up with her anyway."
I was... less sure about that. Sure Wonder Woman had known her for longer, but not as a romantic partner (at least, I assumed not). And as said romantic partner, I knew that she was a rather clingy girlfriend. While I hadn't given Kara any reason to doubt my loyalty before, I was in no rush to find out how she'd act if she did.
Still, I was rather intimidated by the superheroine currently sitting on my couch. I had a sinking feeling in my gut that something wasn't right, but even if that was accurate there wasn't much I, a completely average non-superpowered individual, could really do about it. If Wonder Woman was so insistent on sticking around, the best I could do was wait it out and hope she'd leave before Kara got back. Or failing that, that Kara would handle the situation in a way that didn't make things worse.
Plus, she brought pizza, and I was damn hungry.
"Alright, fine, you can stay," I said with a sigh, sitting back down and picking up my plate, "But don't say I didn't warn you about Kara."
"I promise, my intentions are completely innocent," she said.
Taking her at her word, I unpaused the movie and tried my best to enjoy it despite the circumstances. That was surprisingly easy to do, as Wonder Woman seemed as engrossed by the movie as I was... at least at first. Too focused on the movie and the rapidly diminishing pizza, I failed to notice that Wonder Woman's attention was slowly drifting away from the movie and towards me. By the time the two-hour movie was over, she wasn't even trying to hide the fact that she was staring at me, something that really creeped me out when I finally noticed.
"Um, good movie, huh?" I said with a nervous smile.
"Fantastic," she said, in a way that told me she wasn't talking about the movie.
"Good pizza too," I continued, scooching a bit away from her. To my horror, she scooched over towards me, actually ending up closer to me than she was before. I gulped and said, "Listen, maybe you sticking around isn't such a good..."
"I know," she interrupted with a pout, "But being here with you has felt... divine. And I do not use that word lightly. There's just something so special about you..."
"Yeah, um, you told me that already," I said, realizing rather quickly that I was out of room on the couch to make space, "But, um, I think that Kara wouldn't like it if she saw..."
"Who cares what she thinks?" Wonder Woman snapped. After a moment she flinched, apparently realizing herself how harsh that sounded. Backing off the tiniest bit, she said, "Sorry, I didn't mean... well, I did, but not... not in the way you..."
Her eyes rapidly darted around the room. She suddenly seemed much less certain of herself, in a way that was eerily similar to how Kara was the first night she was in my apartment. Despite myself, I was actually starting to feel concerned for her. Hesitantly I asked, "Hey, are you okay?"
At the sound of my voice, her blue eyes focused back on me, and I could actually see her pupils dilating. Shakily she responded, "I... I don't know. I feel... s-something's wrong..."
Holy shit, was she ****? Could Wonder Woman even be ****? I was starting to think maybe she wasn't entirely to blame for her odd behavior after all.
"Do you need me to call someone?" I asked.
"No!" she snapped, grabbing my arm forcefully, "I don't... th-that's not a good idea."
"Are you sure?" I asked, "You don't look so good."
She took a deep breath then, apparently having composed herself somewhat, said more clearly, "I'm fine. I just... Charlie, I need to know something."
Suddenly I felt a cord wrap around my ankle. Before I could even process what was happening, Wonder Woman asked, "Do you find me attractive?"
I have no idea what I would have said of my own free will, but in the moment I was compelled to answer, "Yes. You're one of the most attractive women I've ever seen."
Wonder Woman smiled at this, then asked, "Even more attractive than Kara?"
I was horrified at what might possibly come out of my mouth, and what did was actually surprising even to me, "Maybe, but I'd have to see you naked to know for sure."
Her brow raised at this, "Interesting..."
She yanked on her Lasso, causing me to lose my balance and fall backwards onto the couch. Looming over me, she said, "Would you like to see me naked, Charlie?"
"Y-Yes, I would." Goddammit.
"I think we can arrange that," she said huskily. Before I could say anything else, she dropped the Lasso, pinned me to the couch by my shoulders, and started kissing me deeply with her ruby red lips.
So much for innocent intentions. How does Charlie react to this sudden development?
