Chapter 16 by BlackMonosh BlackMonosh

Is it?

Of course not

“No. If the two of us are married or in a relationship, yes, but we're not. And you're Kouji's wife."

Rikako is quiet for two minutes but keeps on scrubbing your back before finally replying, “When people of this village offers for you to be accomodated, it means everything. It is the greatest honor that can be given.”

“You mean…” Your eyes widen as understanding begin to fill you: the repeated use of accommodation instead of other simpler words and he offered to the rest of the villagers to host, no, to accommodate you.

“Yes, when he offers to accommodate you, that also includes offering me, his wife, for your pleasure.”

You recall that look she gave her husband a few times as he made the offer to you to stay with him. You finally understand the expression on her face when you accept it: it was a look of resignation. From that, you also make sense of Kouji’s words telling you that you can just enjoy yourself at the chosen accommodation. “Kouji’s actually all right with this?”

“It is the greatest respect he can give to you,” Rikako says mutely. “And he can go on a night stroll tonight.”

The implication is not lost on you. If not for Rikako hugging you from the back, you would have stood up and storm in search of her husband. You turn toward the woman only to see that she was performing a dogeza, fully bowing on the floor, forehead touching the floor. “Rikako.”

“Please, I beseech you. Let me protect my honor.”

“But your husband...”

“Despite that, it is still my honor to serve you!” she insists.

You want to say that you will leave the village immediately but stop as you recall that you’re going to stay for a few more days. Simply leaving like that implies Rikako has offended you. That will destroy her reputation. The other solution is to stay and pretend that you’re doing something to her. But not doing something to her will be very difficult.

“My lord!” Rikako say formally. “If you would show benevolence by granting me your pity."

“How do I do that?”

“Please let me share your bedroom even if I’m not fit for your touch. I know this is presumptuous and rude of me but if you’re unwilling to touch me, at least grant me this boon.”

The sight of an older woman bowing at you is making you very uncomfortable as you're starting to pity her .

How would you respond?
