The Neighbors Are Home!

Marie awoke to the sound of a door shutting, followed by someone’s voice. She quickly moved off of her seat, and looked over the fence.

Marie noticed three cars in the driveway, and the neighbor’s 19 year-old daughter talking on the phone and pacing outside. Marie was thankful that she now had access to help, but was **** to confront the stark reality of her situation. “I’ve got to ask them for help completely naked! We’ve barely interacted before, just when I’m on the way to the mailbox!” She thought, a knot forming in her stomach.

Slowly, she stepped over towards the fence gate. “I can hide behind the fence gate! I’ll be visible from the road, but at least she won’t be able to see me!” Marie thought to herself proudly, as she crept up to the door.

Marie peeked her head around the door, just enough that she could see. She couldn’t help but reveal a bare shoulder, and hoped the neighbors would think she’d just chosen a strapless dress.

She loudly called out towards the daughter. “Excuse me? Hello?” She called, trying to get her attention.

The girl heard Marie calling out, and turned towards Marie. She covered up the microphone on the phone and asked a quick “Yeah?” with raised eyebrows.

Marie suddenly panicked. “What do I say? There’s no good way to ask for help in this situation...” she thought.
