Chapter 20 by Aqualis64 Aqualis64

What's Next?

Upgrades

When you return to the Eos, you notice that the ship now had two new fancy looking rectangular pods attached to the tips of its wings. They looked like the kind of missile pods you’d find on a tank or something. You also noticed the hustle and bustle of numerous droids moving things around the hanger and onto your ship.

You found Sata in engineering, her jumpsuit open and tied at her waist, giving you a good look at the cropped tank top she was wearing.

“Got the missile launchers I see” you comment to the girl, who was working on some blinking machine off to the side.

“It wasn’t that hard to find launchers, the problem was the ammunition” Sata replied. “Managed to find a good supplier for them though,” she added.

“That’s good” you say “Any other things you’ve done to my ship while I was away?” you ask.

“Yes actually” she replied, stopping what she was doing and heading towards the door. “I’ll give you a quick tour,” she said. Stopping outside of the storage room and the room that you had previously given her, she began her tour; “on the left we have munitions storage,” she said, pointing to the room that had previously been the crews storage. “On the right we have a workshop for me,” she added, pointing to the room that had previously been her room. She continued on to the crew quarters. Immediately you noticed that there were only four crew cabins now but they were bigger.

“You changed the crew quarters?” you asked opening one up and seeing that it was empty all the way to the bathroom at the back.

“Easily converted back into a cabin of course but since I doubt we will be needing all six of those small broom closets, I made them bigger” she explained and the last one on the right had furnishings in it. You guessed that would be Tanna’s room when she wasn’t sleeping with you.

Sata took you up to the command deck after this and walked into the cockpit. You didn’t immediately notice the difference but you did see some extra computer things laying around.

“I took the liberty of changing up how the bridge works” Sata explained. “I added the targeting computer and the controls for the missiles to Tanna’s console since she already had all of the sensors and communications equipment at her console,” she continued. “It actually surprised me that there wasn’t a targeting computer installed, the mountings were clearly there for a missile weapons system” Sata said.

“The Eos was converted into a freighter, they probably removed unnecessary things like targeting computers” you say as you take a good look at the other two consoles. Like Sata said, Tanna’s console immediately to the right of your console had all of the communications and navigational systems. To your left was the weapons arrays and their power indicators and all the other gizmos for it. “Speaking of missiles” you said, turning to Sata. “Would you be able to convert some into ion missiles?” you ask.

“That would take some expensive materials” Sata replied, rubbing her chin thoughtfully.

“The money I gave you wasn’t enough?” You asked, conjuring another credit chip into your back pocket just in case.

“There’s still some left, but I wanted to make some other purchases” Sata replied, blushing a little. “And we both know Tanna is going to forget her luggage again” she added and you nod in agreement. Beautiful as she was, Tanna had proven to be a little shortsighted at times. You pull out the credit chip you just conjured and hand it to Sata, you also pull out another datapad and hand that over as well.

“Think you can find and/or make this for me?” You ask as Sata inspected the datapad.

“Is this what I think it is?” Sata asked, her eyes glued to the holographic image of the item you wanted her to procure.

“Yup” you reply before turning away. “Oh, one more thing, I’ve decided to try playing with actual titles and stuff so congrats, you’re the Quartermaster of the Eos now” you say.

“Umm thanks? What does being a Quartermaster entail exactly?” Sata asked in confusion.

“That puts you in charge of maintaining the ship and it’s supplies” you explain. “So anything need fixing, that’s your job, and if we need anything to keep the ship in good repair, you go buy it” you continue “And if you need money to purchase anything for the ship, I’ll be happy to supply it” you finish.

“That’s . . . okay” Sata replied simply.

“So, what missiles did you get?” you ask, heading back down to the magazine.

“Concussion missiles” Sata said, overtaking you and leading you to where the missiles were being stored. “Was surprised to find a proper military brand on the open market,” she added, “a good military brand at that” she finished.

“So what kind of ranges are we talking about here?” you ask, stopping just outside of the magazine.

“Optimal range is about three hundred meters” Sata replied, opening up the room and revealing multiple racks filled with meter long missiles hooked into a loading mechanism of some sort.

“Three hundred meters!?!” you ask, shocked at the distance.

“Yes, I was surprised to find such a good missile for the price I did” Sata replied, not appearing to have realised why you were shocked.

“Are you kidding me? Three hundred meters? That really the best you could have found?” You demand utterly flabbergasted over such poor quality weapons.

“I don’t understand your problem” Sata said slowly with a frown. Backing away from you slightly.

“On my world, we have anti-ship missiles fired from snub fighters that can hit targets tens of kilometers away! In atmosphere!” you exclaim and Sata’s eyes went wide.

“That’s . . .” the girl tried. “How?” she asked

“I don’t know, but I thought a galaxy that was FTL capable would have missiles that could travel further than the average rifle bullet, but only half as fast!” you complain, staring disappointedly at the seemingly ineffectual missiles.

“How do you target that far away?” Sata asked and you remembered that Star Wars targeting systems were rather primitive and get an idea.

“Sata” you begin, the girl in question blinking in response. “Do you know what radios are?” you ask, getting a look of confusion from the girl. Quickly using your god powers to teach yourself everything you need to know about radios, you head up to the holoterminal in the CIC and start punching in info, teaching Sata everything there is to know about radios and how radio waves work. In just an hour the both of you had worked out a simple radio guidance system for your missiles allowing them to basically use the ship’s sensors to track targets. This process extended their effective range considerably, even if it still couldn’t match an earth missile.

“This technology is incredible” Sata said, marveling at the new and improved concussion missiles. “Never would have thought of using a length of metal to vibrate electricity like that,” she added.

“It’s pretty common tech back home” you say as you leave the magazine you had been in. once you and Sata had finished with the plans, you had moved immediately to put them into action. “Almost everyone has a pocket device using radio technology to access our planetary communications network” you add. By this time it was late enough for some supper so you walked into the galley and began whipping up ingredients.

“Kinda feels quiet on the ship without so many people” Sata commented as she sat at the table in the mess.

“Me and Tanna did the trip out there almost entirely on the command deck” You say to the girl. “Only coming down to grab something to eat” you add over the sounds of cooking food. As it turned out, food preservation in the Star Wars galaxy was pretty neat. They used a device that was similar to a fridge only it put the food stuffs into some kind of stasis allowing for fresh food over long distances and for those food stuffs to be stored in a standard cargo bay.

“Your world seems very unique” Sata commented idly.

“It is very unique” you reply “Some say Coruscant used to look similar to my home” you add, reminiscing a little on your lost home. A short pang of homesickness hits you as you think about how you are probably never returning again, given that you can’t leave your new universe.

“Do you miss it?” Sata askes. You turn to face the girl, regarding her for a few moments.

“Yeah” you reply simply before turning back to the meal you are cooking. It didn’t take long to get everything sorted and soon two plates of meat and three veg were on the table.

“When I was a girl, I always wanted to be an engineer on a ship” Sata said. You almost sighed at the fact that Sata was now going to give you some form of backstory. “My parents refused to let me study engineering” she added “Said it wouldn’t be good for someone of my standing” Sata was barely eating, just picking at her meal. “So anyway, what am I getting paid to be ‘Quartermaster’ of the Eos?” she asked, completely turning around from her melancholy.

“No idea” you say between bites. Sata replied with a deadpan look that made you chuckle, she could be cute when she was annoyed. “Honestly, I have no idea what the going rate for a starship engineer is so, make your own salary” you continue and Sata gave a thoughtful look. You couldn’t help but notice that she mentioned her parents hadn’t let her study engineering but here she was, as an engineer.

“I’ll give you a datapad tomorrow or something” Sata said, finishing off her meal before taking her plate to the sink.

“The things that you need?” You ask the girl who turned around to face you. “Can you get them anywhere or does it have to be Coruscant?” you ask.

“Any major trading hub will do” Sata replied, getting a thoughtful expression. “Or even a moderately industrialised world for that matter,” she added “Actually, Coruscant is probably a bad place for gathering weapons grade materials, since it’s almost the furthest place you can be from any of the manufactures” she explained. You nod at this as you finish your own food.

“I’m thinking of getting underway sooner than expected” you say to the girl. “Possibly tomorrow” you add “Maybe even as soon as Tanna gets back” you finish. Sata nods before turning around and leaving, heading down towards the cargo bay, more than likely heading to a mall or something to replace any luggage she’d been **** to ditch during your rapid exit from the slaver base. With Sata gone, you realised you needed something to pass the time while everyone was getting sorted for the next adventure. You could always see if Abrie was available but there were many other things you could do as well.

How to Kill Time?
