This had gone on too far. I couldn't take advantage of this crying, innocent girl any longer. Yes, she said some awful things in the past, but I was the older, wiser woman. I should have known to let it go. So there was only one thing I could do to make things right.
"Hey Melody," I told her. "I have something to tell you too."
"Okay," she said. Her tears were mostly dried up by now, but she was still sniffling. She curled up her knees to her chest, and grabbed a spare blanket from the bed to wrap over herself.
"I've never had sex with Monica. I knew about her scar because we talked about it while drunk once. I just said that to try to get you back at you. And it was mean, and it was dumb, and I'm sorry."
Her face twisted, a swirl of emotions danced on each expression. After such an emotional moment, I didn't know how she'd handle another one. But it had to be said. I couldn't let this continue. But I said all that I could. Now I just had to wait for her response, whatever it was, and take it in stride.
