Chapter 5

What's next?
Skip to the end of the movie
Marinette let out a relieved sigh as the screen faded to black and the credits began to roll. Throughout most of the movie, Marinette had been afraid that she would die from secondhand embarrassment just from watching it. Alya was right, though, about the nature of the movie. All in all, the first half of it was fairly lighthearted. Things didn’t spiral into life or **** situations until the second half of the movie, which Marinette was thankful for once it started. Anything to take the focus off the sabotaging of the girl’s wardrobe was welcome, even though the girl’s end of the movie attire ended up being a childish pair of panties and a tank top that didn’t quite cover her belly.
For her part, Alya had thoroughly enjoyed the movie. She laughed at all the absurd situations that the girl had gotten into with the ghosts’ help. Of course, she sympathized with the lead. Alya definitely never wanted her or any of her friends to experience half of what the lead’s character had to. “So, did you like it?”
“It wasn’t bad,” Marinette said with a polite smile. Alya’s face fell.
“Girl, I told you to let me know if you didn’t want to watch it!” Alya said.
“I know,” Marinette said, waving off her concern. “It’s all right, I didn’t mind the movie. It just wasn’t my favorite, you know. I’m just glad that it’s all made up. I’d hate to have ghosts like that messing with me.”
A devilish glint appeared in Alya’s eyes. “Well, actually, Marinette, this movie is based off a true story, so you never know.” Alya let out a laugh as her friend paled a little.
“Don’t joke like that, Alya!”
“I’m serious, though,” Alya said, putting on her best poker face. “This movie was based on real events that happened to a family right here in Paris.” It was a lie, but Alya didn’t feel bad about telling it. If anything, Alya felt it was a well-deserved punishment for not giving her a chance to swap the movie earlier on.
Marinette’s eyes scanned her friend’s, looking for any signs of deception. Whether or not Alya was being honest, Marinette couldn’t tell. She gnawed on her lower lip some. “That’s not funny, Alya.”
“Maybe that’s because I’m not trying to be,” Alya said with a grin as she got up. “On that note, I think it’s time to head to bed. Alya said, relishing in her friend’s momentary panic, before she rushed into her room and came back with a pillow and blanket for her friend. “Try not to dream about the ghosts.” A mischievous grin on Alya’s face as she went to her room.
Marinette sat there processing everything that just happened, trying to figure out whether or not Alya was pulling her leg. She felt relatively certain it was a joke, but she wasn’t sure. Before long, Marinette decided just not to think about it, grabbing the pillow and blanket and getting comfortable on the couch. Somehow, she managed to fall asleep after just a few minutes, completely unaware of the twin terrors whose minds were still focused on all the mischief they witnessed. Inklings of potential ideas going through their heads.
