Claire, his mother

He can think of several people he'd like to experiment on, assuming this thing actually works. But he's **** to waste too much time and effort on it in the event the headband turns out to be just old junk.

With that in mind, the choice is obvious. His mother is just upstairs and he can trust her not to tease him too much for believing in mind control even a little bit.

Climbing the stairs he follows the aroma of fresh baking to the kitchen.

"Mmm, something smells good." He says eyeing the tray of cupcakes.

"I thought you deserved a treat for all your hard work," she smiles back at him "But you'll have to wait for them to cool off a little before you can have one I'm afraid."

Jason nods waiting for his mother to ask about the headband, surely she must be curious about what it could be?

They spend several minutes exchanging small talk during which Claire doesn't give it a second glance. Slowly it dawns on Jason that the device might be hiding in some way, preventing her from noticing it. If it could to that, could it really do the other things the note had mentioned?

Taking a deep breath he decides to test it out. He focuses on his mother willing her to hear his thoughts. After the morning's exertions, he is a little thirsty and he concentrates on that feeling, projecting at her, willing her to feel it too.

After just a few seconds Claire breaks off mid-sentence and pours herself a glass of ice water. Without pausing she gulps it down greedily not stopping until she's done.

"Phew!" she gasps "That's better I was so thirsty, it must be the heat in here."

Jason can hardly believe it, it had actually worked! Or had it? The rational part of his brain protests that it could just be a coincidence. It is hot in the kitchen, maybe she really was just thirsty?

He needs to test it again and this time try and make her do something she normally never would...
