Fighting a small time supervillain

The Brass Monkey was a criminal often underestimated by the local law enforcement, superheroes included, because of his small size. But when the guy you were fighting was made of solid bronze and had the acrobatic skills of a primate you had to be careful.

Only Jack-in-the-Box fully understood how tough it was to fight Brass Monkey. But tonight he wasn’t available. Instead it was Nightingale and Sunbird who had to fight him. They’d taken out the hired thugs who worked for Brass Monkey easily and had chased the monkey himself up a fire escape and onto a roof.

“It’s over, Brass Monkey!” Nightingale had the thief cornered.

Sunbird lagged behind her partner but was able to catch up.

“Yeah, we already stopped your friends so you might as well just give up!” Sunbird put on her best serious face.

“I’ve faced tougher than you, ladies.” Brass Monkey cackled. “See ya ‘round!”

Brass Monkey tried to make a getaway but Sunbird and Nightingale would not stand for it.

“The only place you’ll be seeing is a prison cell!” Sunbird led the charge against Brass Monkey with Nightingale following close behind.

Sunbird reached forward and managed to grab on to Brass Monkey by the tailing, making the villain stop running. This tactic would prove to be a horrible error for both Sunbird and her partner.

“Don’t touch the tail!” Brass Monkey roared with such ferocity that it startled Sunbird into letting go.

Snarling, Brass Monkey turned around and pounced on Sunbird. The sudden anger in Brass Monkey shocked Sunbird and she fell over backwards. The monkey blindly grabbed and pulled at Sunbird’s costume, sending shreds of red and orange fabric flying into the air.

“Ah! Let go of me!” Sunbird struggled against Brass Monkey but found herself overpowered. “Nightingale… A little help?”

Nightingale was stunned with how quick Brass Monkey had been moving but Sunbird’s shouting got her back to normal.

“Don’t worry Sunbird, I’m here!”

Nightingale sprinted up to Brass Monkey and tried to pull him away. But unluckily for her, Nightingale made the same mistake her partner did. She grabbed the monkey’s tail. Which spelled bad news for her.
