Chapter 5 by M2J N7 M2J N7

Do you make it to your dinner date?

Maybe So, Maybe No... Informing Yang

Ruby is looking like she wants to ask what you mean by that comment, but she's interupted by Yang, who seems even scarier to you now than she ever has before. Partly, because not only did she sent Rica to the infirmary, yet again, but because Goodwitch sent the rest of your team with her. There's also the added stress of the fact that you have a date, that's not really a date, with Ruby- Yang's sweet, adorable younger sister, whom Yang is very protective of.

In the background, you're vaguely aware of Goodwitch calling down two more competitors, but your main focus is on the developing situation before you and not on the ring below- primarily because you now have to tell Yang about your upcoming... "Captain's Meeting" with Ruby and have none of your teammates to back you up should the worst come to pass.

"Hey, guys, that was one heck of a work out," Yang says looking rather refreshed. The fact that she seems to somewhat get off on combat is another point on the intimidation scale for you.

"Must you really look so upbeat after sending yet another opponent to the infirmary?" Belladonna asks her partner.

"She challenged me," Yang defends herself.

Since you've been voluntold to be the one who breaks the news of your not quite a date with Ruby to Yang, this is the opening you need. You take a deep breathe and prey to Oum that you haven't just sighed your own **** warrant. Still, since none of them even thought twice about throwing you under the bus like this, you're not adverse to doing the same. "A-As per the terms, set forth by Blake Belladonna and Seneca Greene, Team RWBY now owes Team JSPR (Jasper) compensation- the terms of which w-will be discussed over d-dinner by the team c-captains th-this evening."

Through all this, you can't bring yourself to even look at Yang. If you had, you are certain you would have faltered. As it is, you're still surprised you managed to get all that out at all. If you'd looked around, you'd have noticed that no one is even pretending to no longer be paying attention to what's going on in the ring, waiting to see how Yang reacts to your fumbling overtures to her baby sister.

Your focus is mostly on the row in front of you. Arc looks like he's finally getting a clue and is looking at the whole scene is apprehension. Nikos is looking rather wistful, Valkyrie's eyes are bouncing back and forth between you and Yang, as if anticipating what is gonna happen next, and Ren is passively watchful, as if trying to figue out what his next course of action was going to be.

"Really?" Yang asks with her eyes narrowed in suspision.

Taking the chance to look at her, you meet her menacing gaze straight on. "Y-Y-Yes." You reply, though NO WHERE near as firmly as you'd have liked. You have the distinct feeling that she's sizing you up. You clench your fist to keep yourself from quailing in fear underneath that gaze.

"Be ready to pick her up at six," Yang says finally, much to your visibile relief. "But you better have her back to the dorm by nine."

You have no idea what possessed you to proceed with your next course of action. Perhaps, it was the fact that you were still riding high off of the endorphines released by your apparent victory that made you do so, so you subconsiously offered a counter offer. "Ten."

There's a sort of anticipatory hush that falls over your surroundings. Yang looks as surprised as you feel that you said that. You have a feeling that you look no better. You notice that Ruby's gaze is nervously ping ponging back and forth between you and Yang.

Yang's startled look, briefly slides into something akin to an approving smile, though it changes again so quickly that you're half convinced that you imagined it. Her expression and tone are neutral, giving away nothing. "Fine."

At that moment, the bell rings.

"Remember, six and do NOT be late," Yang says warningly to you, as she drags Ruby off.

"Yang! Wait, what's going..." poor Ruby is rather confused as to what's going on. The socially awkward teen knows she has obviously missed some bit of context as to what exactly is going on, but she is aware of the fact that there is more going on that what she realizes.

Valkyrie squeals in delight as she pulls her own partner to her. "Oh, Reny! Did you see that!"

Ren merely sighs and indulges her, though his slight smile gives away is own amusement. "Yes, Nora."

"It was soooo wonderful!" Valkyrie exclaims gushingly. Of all the girls you knew, you'd have never have figured that Nora Valkyrie would be one of the biggest romantics of them all. She then drags off Ren while Nikos offers you a slight smile as she too follows after them.

Arc fixes you with a stare that would be intimidating on practically everyone else, but you aren't even slightly intimidated, least of all, by him. For one, he's towards the bottom/middle of your year- overall, while you are solidly in the top five. While he isn't the bumbling fool he was your first year, he's still in the bottom half (at the top of the bottom half, but still bottom half) of combat class, whereas the ONLY two students who have winning records against you are Pyrrha Nikos and Yang Xiao Long. "You realize Yang isn't the only one you have to worry about."

"Noted," you reply neutrally. While Yang was certainly the biggest threat, she wasn't the only one.

Like all teams, including your own, Team RWBY was very close knit group. While individually, they were all exceptional huntresses, their true strength was in their natural compatibility with not only each other, but other teams as well. Of note, was Team CFVY, who was in the year above yours, and Team SSSN of Haven Academy. However, no other team could synch with Team RWBY like Team JNPR could. Which as surprisng, because there wasn't a team that was more different from Team RWBY, except maybe Team CRDL. Where Team RWBY was made up of four exceptional huntresses whose natural team work was flawless, Team JNPR only had one exceptional member, two where were merely above average, and the third was trying and failing to intimidate you and their team work was often hit or miss.

Still, while you were confident that under most circumstances you could beat Nora Valkyrie in a real fight, you were well aware of how vicious she could be and you liked your legs unbroken.

Message delivered, Jaune Arc followed after the rest of his team. You decided to head up to the infirmary to check up on Rica.

What happens next?
