And now?
I try to talk myself out of that situation
"I did not know that you ..."
I looked into her eyes. They were of a greenish blue. Like mountain lakes, telling you from a distance that they are too cold to swim in. I fell silent in the middle of a sentence.
"Of course you didn't know, but that does not answer my question. On the other hand, the answer is pretty obvious."
The temperature in that office seemed to rise all of a sudden. It felt like all the sweat pores of my body were working at full capacity. My ears were glowing red. Somehow I had to get out of that situation.
So I apologized for interrupting whatever she was doing and offered to carry out the necessary repair on the copier for free.
"That would be the least, but I do not know if that will be enough ..." she said. "Where is the defective copier?" I asked, professional behavior was taking over.
"The copy machine is in the office of my boss, right next door." she answered, emphasizing the word "machine".
Her voice sounded strange, free of any accusation, as if I couldn't have done anything to avoid the embarrassing situation, which was technically true but didn't match my feeling at all.
"You will understand that I have to be present while you do the repair. Trade secrets and stuff, you know. "She closed her laptop and removed it from the desk.
So we headed to the next room, and the girl sat down on the executive chair, opened her iBook again and started working on some texts and designs.
I made a few test copies first, and the problem was narrowed down pretty quickly.
I routinely disassembled the lower parts of the case until I reached a point where I could use a third hand.
"Could you give me a quick hand?" I akred.
No reaction.
"You would really shorten the time here, if you could just hold this part down for a moment." I pointed a finger at a transport roller and turned around.
What do I see?
