Chapter 3 by Nemo of Utopia Nemo of Utopia

The Day Arrives: What Are Your Three Possible Picks?

Myco-Gora, A Fungal-Colony Tentacle: Thrawnix, A Stone Tentacle: Or "The-Worm-That-Walks", A Kinda Creepy Hive Tentacle

Time has Arrived! You are led out to the Choosing Ground by your mother, and before you lie or stand your three basic choices.

First is a small fungal tentacle known as a Myco-Gora.

Myco-Gora has one of the longest metamorphic chains of any tentacle, going through five distinct stages. This one is in its second stage, the only one where it is mobile. After the second stage, they root in place and thereafter only can move their tentacles. The next two stages after that Mico-Gora grows larger underground, spreading out and forming new tentacle growths around the area until, at its fifth stage's maximum growth, it covers slightly more than a square mile. A Mico-Gora is red-to-pink and black in color, with four or five tentacles per cluster. As they get bigger, their tentacles get longer, but even at their mobile second stage, they are about eight inches long and thick at the base. Mico-Gora cannot talk but communicate fairly effectively with their bonded Queen through empathic vibrations. Mico-Gora's nutrition requirements are minimal at most stages, as they absorb nutrients from the soil, however, during their mobile stage they must eat partially decomposed plant and animal matter to stay healthy. The Mico-Gora will not help as much with providing building material as the other options, but has an advantage in that land with a Myco-Gora under it grows more-and-better crops than normal. A Myco-Gora is not very bright, but are smart enough to give/deny consent. (If consent is being denied they produce an angry vibration and withdraw their tentacles into their nodule.)

Next up is a Thrawnix, a tentacle covered in polished bits of stone.

This Thrawnix is an adult specimen, being about a foot long and completely covered in rounded pebbles. Thrawnixes go through three metamorphic stages, being similar to enormous earthworms when hatched, then covering themselves with rounded pebbles as they grow to maturity, and finally reaching a massive size of five feet and developing secondary tentacles around their head for fine manipulation and at their groin for reproduction. Thrawnixes are more intelligent than most Earth Tentacles, but still pretty dumb, and communicate with their own language of clicks, quacks, crows, and hoots, which is instinctively known by their bondmate, though she can't really pronounce it. They, in turn, instinctively understand their mate's language, whatever it is, so both can talk to each other even though they are speaking different languages. The Thrawnix's big advantage is it is an expert digger, able to uncover many good stones and old ruble for building and dig for roots and bulbs to sustain you both while you set up the farm. This will allow you to spend more of your settlement stipend on livestock and tools instead of provisions and supplies.

Third, you have "The-Worms-That-Walk".
"The-Worms-That-Walk" is a hive organism, composed of thousands of individual tentacles the size of a small earthworm that acts together to form a gestalt consciousness and body. Taking over the skeleton of a deceased natural creature, such as a deer or ape, the worms cooperate seamlessly to animate that skeleton as their body. A The-Worms-That-Walk is among the most intelligent of common Earth type Tentacles, being one of those that lay long-term plans and strategizes endlessly, bringing advantages for the long term stability of your farm and its capacity to perform over time, but not bringing any immediate advantages except the Ability to recycle bones. The-Worms-That-Walk have three metamorphic Stages, its baby form which is just a ball of worms, its second stage where it takes over a roughly human-sized skeleton, then the rare "Titan" stage where it combines multiple skeletons and carved stone's into a creature greater than the sum of its parts. The-Worms-That-Walk can approximate human speech and converse intelligently, making them good at serving their Queen's socialization needs out in the wilderness of a new colony, but have a much weaker defense than most Earth Types, (generally speaking, there are exceptions, but they tend to be slow and weak on attack as they are using turtle/tortoise skeletons,) meaning they can not fight as effectively. As a final note on this tentacle, this particular "The-Worms-That-Walk" is bonded to the skeleton of a War-Dog, the giant dogs that help defend colonies from rogue tentacles. Good for fighting and digging, but not as good for most farm work. (Except herding and planting, it could be very effective at those.)

You must now choose one to use your 'Perfected Bonding Lube' with, but be aware that this does not preclude bonding with the others, the chances are just lower, though they will be above 50% for each of the other tentacles...

Which Tentacle Do You Use The Perfected Bonding Lube With?
