Caged!

Velma knew something was coming and yet she was powerless to stop it. Blind and prone, all she could do was let out a shriek of terror as a steel gate snapped down from the ceiling blocking her path mere inches in front of her face. She jumped back, bumping her head on the ceiling and as she recoiled, curling into a ball and clutching her head. She clenched her teeth as the throbbing subsided slightly. She reached ouch in front of her, and while she was fairly certain she knew what she would find, sit still sent a pang of dread through her spine as her fingers closed around the bars of her new cage. She pulled herself forward and grasped the gate with both hands, shaking them to see if there was any kind of give. She slide her fingers around the edges of the tunnel, trying to determine which direction it slide from when a second shrill sliding of metal and a dull thud alerted her to the fact that she was now locked in from both sides. She panicked and scampered to the other gate, unable to believe how foolish she was to let that happen, she should have retreated as soon as she heard the first gate slam shut and now she was absolutely stuck, something that was becoming quite a common occurrence tonight.

Velma crawled around in the black corridor like a trapped animal as she heard metallic sounds starting up all around her. It sounded like gears whining to life and she felt the floor underneath her begin to shake. She backed away from the gates, drawing her knees in tight and holding herself, not wanting to risk losing fingers as she was fairly certain she felt the small section she was caged in moving. Weather up or down, she couldn’t tell, she could only curl up into a tight little ball and hope that wherever she was going, she would at least be able to see what was going on.
