"Babe, I swear. What the fuck do you think is going on?" He asked, pretend mad.

"Nothing, I-"

"Then why do you think I'm cheating on you or something? First the question last night, now today...what? What is it? Do you think I'm cheating on you with Zoey? That somehow I convinced her that she should cheat on Tom, her boyfriend, and I would throw away our three year long relationship to fuck her?"

She hesitated. "I...I'm sorry. I just...I mean, you were staying late at work, and she then spends all of this money to take us out, and then...yeah, and then I saw you two working together and both upstairs at the same time. I just...I like Zoey and Tom. But I think she might have a crush on you or something."

"Why would you say that?"

"These looks I see her giving you. I'll catch her off beat during a story and I see her eyes and they just...I know those eyes, Tyler. Those are the looks that I give you. I don't trust her."

"So as a byproduct, you don't trust me?" He sighed hard in false frustration. "Unbelievable. And we're even supposed to go to their house tonight. This was YOUR idea. What -- am I going to fuck her here too? All over her bed while you're passed out on the couch? Here -- maybe Tom is in on it too. We're going to spit roast her." Tyler scoffed. "Look, Kait. I don't get what's going through your mind. I trust you. I mean, heck, you spent a lot of time with Tom tonight -- does that mean you're cheating on me? No! I trust you."

She was silent.

"And I'm a little upset that you don't trust me back."

They were both silent.

"Look. Let's just forget about everything, okay? I'm sorry, Tyler. I'm sorry. I'm just afraid of losing you. Yes, I trust you. I trust you as much as I love you."

"Are you sure about that?"

"With all of my heart. Let's just go inside and drink, okay? Forget about this."

"I'm not in the mood to drink. I'm sorry, Kait. I just...I thought I'd gotten your trust back. I guess I can't do everything, huh? I'll just be your designated driver and drive you home after you get done." He took the keys out of his car and walked out.

Feeling like the utter scum of the Earth that he was, he began to walk to her door.
