Chapter 20

Dinner bell
Searching for the kitchen
A bell began ringing somewhere in the house, most probably signalling dinner time. As she walked out of the bath, she couldn’t help but wonder if she was maybe wearing her uniform wrong. The rooms around seem to be empty now, all the same simple, utilitarian style. Why fix what isn’t broken, right? She liked the rooms, no need for expensive marble, indoor fountains, mahogany shelves or whatever rich people had in their baths. This was a good, down to earth place. “I like it here.” She thought to herself, as she reached the end of the hallway. To her left, a sumptuous bathing room sat behind heavy open mahogany doors, the large pool of flowing water framed by large marble columns. Riches are wasted on the rich.
She sighs, shaking her head and start walking down the second hallway, towards mansion’s entrance. Closed doors lined both sides of the long room, maps and oil paintings covering every blank space, as if someone was afraid of seeing any of the wallpaper behind.
Crying
The and the mansion
