Chloe Volunteers

To my shock, Chloe instantly volunteered.

"I'll do it." It came without any hesitation. If I didn't know better I might have assumed she was actually eager to accept that ridiculous proposal. I thought at first that she couldn't possibly be serious but she reassured me that she was. This proposal was so unjust, so unfair, it was basically like a get out of jail free card for our father.

Chloe would be sacrificing so much if she agreed to do this. A couple of months ago she received a huge scholarship for college, something I was never able to achieve myself. I still remember the level of joy and excitement she displayed that day and how proud I was of her. She wouldn't be able to attend this year by accepting this outrageous deal. Wanting to help our father is one thing, but sacrificing something that you've worked so hard on to do so is just inconceivable to me. It actually angered me with how illogical this decision was and an argument broke out.

"And you would rather see Dad go to prison?" Chloe asked frustratingly.

"Rather than seeing you throw away your future? Yeah." I barked back, not that I was against having him go to prison regardless of the circumstances.

We bickered and argued with each other for what felt like over an hour. Chloe is one of the most stubborn people I know, so getting her to agree with your argument is like trying to draw blood from a stone. To my surprise, Dad actually took my side on this. It was refreshing to see him not want his daughter to suffer his crimes for him but unfortunately, his objection still didn't change Chloe's stance. I tried to tell her that she has stood up for our father more than enough already and that she doesn't owe him a thing.

Chloe being as stubborn as always, was not willing to budge and showed no signs of potentially changing her mind. I was actually getting genuinely mad at her by this point. I couldn't see her do this to herself, so I did the only thing that I could think of at the time...
