Chapter 3 by tantrikenetic
Any last-minute items you want to bring?
Your black umbrella.
You hastily grab your umbrella off of the foot of your bed before slipping on your shoes and heading out the door. You close and lock it behind you, then run down the stairs and head to the front door. Like she said, Melody is waiting for you, tapping her foot.
"About time." She said, aggrivated. "Can we go get plastered now?"
"Yeah, yeah." You nod, trying not to get any more on her bad side. As you step outside into the pouring rain, you expand you umbrella and hold it over your head you move in close to Melody so she's under the umbrella too. She looks over at you with a quizzical look.
"I'm already soaked." She explains.
"You don't need to get any more wet." You respond. She glares at you and pushes you away.
"Don't stand so close to me." She closes her eyes and walks in the rain. You sigh at her. When she gets upset like this, she tends to push people away and sink into a realm of self-pity. Well, not tonight.
Keeping at a distance, you hold the umbrella away from you over her head. The water starts to pour down onto your head and, as uncomfortable as it is, you refuse to let it get to you. Melody turns to you with a funny look in her eyes.
"What the hell are you doing?" She asks you.
"Keeping you dry." You say simply.
"You're going to get as soaked as I am!" She yells at you.
"Well, I'm keeping my umbrella over your head and if you don't want me near you, then I guss I'll just get drenched." You say simply, shrugging. Melody looks very aggrivated with you, but a hint of a smile plays with the corners of her lips.
"All right, you pain in the ass. Get back over here." You smile and move back under the umbrella with her. She sighs and shoves her hands in her pockets. The rest of the walk to the downtown bar is in silence, but she doesn't fight with you anymore.
The sign above the bar says "O'Houlihan's Pub". The bright and inviting lights seem warming to you and you hurry inside. It was a small pub, with just a few tables and a bar. It wasn't too crowded though, so you could easily get a seat. The cozy feel had made this place a favorite for you two to visit.
Melody immediatly goes to the bar and slumps down on a bar stool, placing her head against thwe woodwork of the bar. You cautiously go over and sit next to her. The large bartender, who was cleaning out a glass mug, casts an uneasy glance at you.
"Is somethin' botherin' ya, Miss Melody?" He asks, flipping the dish rag over his shoulder.
"Life's shitty, Shamus. Get me a beer." She mumbles into the table. "Guinness in the tallest glass you got."
"Ah." Shamus says slowly, giving you a knowing glance. "And for you, Jack?"
What do you order?
