Chapter 9

Which way to freedom?
Up and out!
You have no desire at all to slow down, the giant will catch up before long - needing to make as much distance as possible, you just keep going straight ahead even as the path gets very steep very quickly.
You're exhausted, but the thought of being a giant's meal keeps you surging forward. How high IS it? The air is starting to burn in your lungs and your legs ache, and the booming and shaking and roaring of the giant is practically on top of you. Smaller bits of rock and rubble shift under your booted feet and pelt your otherwise naked body from all sides, and you only JUST avoid one of the giant's gnarled and grasping hands as you both turn a corner and it slams into the tunnel wall.
You can see sky, it's not much further - and you redouble your efforts while the giant recovers. The tunnel is getting narrower and smaller, but not enough to do much more than inconvenience the giant. Hopefully that'll be enough to get you away.
As you finally emerge from the caverns and into the daylight, you realize almost right away you're at the top of a bluff. Blinking rapidly to try and **** the darkness from your eyes, you hear a chorus of screeching up above even as the cave behind you practically explodes as the giant forces it's way out. Howling in the sunlight, it makes mad grasps for you... only to be suddenly attacked by a great many winged men and women.
Practically caught in the crosshairs, you try to avoid both the giant AND the Harpy-folk; you saw them further out at sea from your village sometimes, pulling larger fish from the water with their powerful taloned feet - in lean years they'd even harass the ships. Blinded as you are, though - you stumble and start to fall from the bluff!
A scream rips itself from your throat, but before your life can REALLY start flashing before your eyes, one of the Harpy-folk grabs you with their feet, warmth beneath the scales and amazingly NOT puncturing you with their talons. Right now you're just too tired to worry, instead enjoying the view of the landscape - your village off to the west and the City in the distance in the east, the Harpy starting to head somewhere to the north before you drift off to sleep.
Where are you now?
