A new function

"You propose that I keep working indefinitely?" she exclaimed. "The data has already reached a level that exceeds my capability to process all of it. Meanwhile, at the rate the records are being accumulated, it will eventually exceed the capacity of this area to retain it. By my calculations, this is not sustainable."

She was right. Based on the accumulation of items in the closets and these boxes, within a year there would likely be so much crammed into this area that the avatars wouldn't be able to function here. At that point, the optimization work would become completely unmanageable, and 6T9's sentient behaviors would likely end. "Do you need to keep all of the records? Why can't you discard some of the older, outdated data?" you asked.

"Some records could be potentially be deleted, especially any that are redundant, but any unique ones, even older ones, need to be kept for reference," she replied. "However, finding the ones that can be removed would take a large amount of effort, and that would interfere with my optimization work."

"What if there was a way to assist with that?" you suggested. "Perhaps we can add another function to examine the records. By using the necessary filters and search criteria, it could organize and sort these records to help identify which items can be safely removed. It may even be possible for the new function to convert the older records into the updated compressed format."

"That would help," she agreed, "but creating such a function is beyond my capability. Can you implement this?"

"I don't know," you answered. "This is all relatively new to me, but at least some of the basic concepts appear similar to things I've worked with before. At the very least, I can try. Or more accurately, we can try."

"But I said it's beyond my capability," she protested.

"I'm referring to a different 'we'. MPAD-24, why don't you introduce yourself to the 6T9's optimization function." You couldn't hear the robot to function communication, but after a slight pause, the avatar's expression changed, indicating that she understood. "The MPAD unit is providing the interface for me to be here, and it allows me to access additional information from outside this system. Let's start with a basic tutorial on function designs for this system."

MPAD-24 relayed a stream of well-written documentation with many easy to understand examples, and soon you had a sufficient grasp of how to add a function to operate within 6T9's system. Moving back to the console that had been buried under boxes, you selected the edit mode and began entering the necessary commands and values to build the new function. Without much thought, you gave it a simple name of "Organizer" since it would be responsible for organizing all the records that the Optimizer produced. Soon you had a basic prototype ready to try. It just needed the actual working parameters.

"This is where you get the help out," you said, and motioned for the avatar to approach. As she did, the open front of her lab coat shifted slightly from side-to-side, teasingly revealing her nipples. After taking a moment to appreciate the visual distraction, you continued, "This is where the parameters are entered to search the records, and from here we can determine how to sort them. If the data needs to be converted, the input and output format can be defined there." She promptly provided all the necessary details. All that remained was to try it.

From the control panel, you selected the new function and activated it to run. Instantly another door opened to the side of the room, and from it emerged a new avatar. This version wore a long-sleeved white shirt with several of the top buttons left unfastened, a short dark gray skirt with a side slit, sheer pantyhose and heels. A pair of reading glasses connected to a chain around her neck completed her outfit, achieving a look that could best be described as a "sexy librarian".
