Answer with your Instincts

An idea pops into your head as you walk up to the board, staring at the problem. This is going to be good. Professor Luck raises an eyebrow as she sees you pick up the chalk immediately, but you begin furiously writing, outlining the structure of the proof as concepts come together in your head.

After a few minutes, you step back, only now realising that you’ve filled up two whole blackboards with your writing. The rest of the class is scribbling furiously, while the hot blonde in the back stares at you, before snapping a photo of the board (and you) on her phone.

“Alex…” Professor Luck says, her voice sounding a little breathy. “That was quite impressive. You took a bold approach, one that few would see at first glance - and I can tell that many in the class still don’t quite understand what you did. We’ll go over this proof again first thing next class, because it’s going to require some more explanation.”

With that, she nods at you, and you take a seat, writing down the gist of your argument so you have it down for yourself as well. But with what you just accomplished, you don’t think you’ll be forgetting how to do it anytime soon.

“I’ll post the homework for next class in an hour or so,” Professor Luck says. “Don’t forget, I have office hours right after class now! Stop by and chat if you have any questions or are finding anything tricky.”

With that, the class begins to filter out of the room, and Christina punches you in the shoulder.

“Nice job, Alex,” she says. “I was totally stumped on that problem until you got up there and started writing like a madman. You’re definitely helping me study for the midterm.”

“Helping you study for the midterm? Such exclusive services don’t come cheap Christina,” you say.

“Oh, I know,” she replies. “But I’m willing to pay a big price for your expertise.”

With that, you leave the classroom, and realise that you need to decide how to spend the hour before your next class begins.
