After the episode Hypnotic

Zatanna Zatara had regained her father's book of spells, and stopped her attempt at resurrecting her father by the words of a handsome and power man named Clark Kent. He had convinced the beautiful brunette magician to not sacrifice her life for her father's , but instead try to use his legacy for doing good. Ironically, the first thing she did was study magic to commit theft.

Then again the theft was against Luthorcorp, previously owned by Lex Luthor who she had heard distrubing rumors about. Which is why she broke into his warehouses and stole any thing magical he could have had. Eliminating all knowledge and memory of them as well. The reward was a number of spellbooks, both light and dark... some magical items, and some odd pieces. Including the gem dust which Lex had kept.

'Simone Charcot. Killer, murdered her own father for the stone he used for hypnosis due to it's power being magical based. Enslaved Clark Kent under Lex's orders to break him up with his girlfriend so Lex could have her, as well as learn Clark's Secret. Under ****, Simone then attempted to kill Lex to free herself. Which is how she was killed and her gem shattered. Lex was trying to find out if he could capture the magic of the gem for his own use.' she read as she made sense of the gem. The gem was magically inert, no hypnotic power within.

That was not to say it was not magically useful. Lex had yet to find a magician powerful enough to do anything with it. Or to look into the books of magic he had for a way to bring out the magic. She was and she did. Which was not long before she used her power.

"Nommus eht citonpyh rewop eerf morf eht meg tsud!" From the gem dust and fragments a blue energy emerged as the remains lost that colour. At the heart of the blue energy which was forming a ball, was a heart of a red surging energy. Taking out a clear white diamond she had placed in an amulet, she moved the energy into it. The diamond turned bright blue as the red heart buried itself into the gem.

A few spells scans later, and she had discovered her amulet now had an extremely powerful hypnotic effect on all who looked at it. Save the wearer/wielder.
