Discovery in the lab

As the door to the lab opened, you immediately detected the lavender-like scent you'd encountered previously. "That odor. That's what the strange plant smelled like," you observed. "Can you detect that?"

The three Greys paused and looked at you. Based on their expressions, they couldn't. "Our species actually has a very limited sense of smell," admitted the doctor. "It's somewhat of a biological trade-off as some of our other senses are heightened instead."

"MPAD-24, can you detect anything unusual in the air in the lab?" you asked.

"Scanning," it responded. After several seconds, it continued, "Unknown particulate matter detected. Concentration suggests close proximity to organic source."

"See? There's definitely something in there," you proclaimed. "Now we just need to find it."

Before you could step in, the doctor held up his hand signalling to wait. "Whatever it is, It almost killed you last time," he said. "Let them check the room first."

The other two Greys entered the room and began directing the lab's sensors to perform a slow sweep using fan-shaped sensor beams, following a serpentine path from one side of the lab to the other. Meanwhile, the doctor activated the transparent wall, and you stood beside him observing their progress. As they approached the area near the Feeler that had shown a different moisture concentration, one of the sensor beams suddenly stopped advancing and began glowing a different color. One of the Greys approached the area and pointed a slender metal bar downward. In response, the dirt began to slide away. As he progressed, it began to reveal something hidden just below the surface. It was nearly transparent, almost like a pool of water, but it had a consistency more like plastic.

"What is it?" you asked.

The Grey doctor had already brought up a remote terminal device and was observing the results of the scan. "It doesn't appear to match any known species we've previously encountered," stated the doctor.

Inside, the other Grey inside joined the first, and together they continued to uncover the unknown creature. After several minutes, they had unveiled its flat oval-shaped form which was just over 2 meters (6.6 feet) in the longest direction and slightly smaller side-to-side. One end of was beneath the Feeler while rest of it was in an open area. Once they had exposed the top side of the entity, they began a new set of scans.

"It kind of looks like a big flat plastic egg," you remarked.

"An astute observation," added the doctor. "Based on these readings, it appears to be an egg."
