The Brazilian surfers.

Robyn couldn’t resist going and interacting with the professional surfers. These guys were her idols and she’d be kicking herself tomorrow if she didn’t at least go and talk to them. Emma was less enthusiastic but Robyn managed to convince her to act as her wing chick by telling her that they were probably too busy with their own competition to have seen her in the bikini comp.

Heading to the pool table where they were currently playing Robyn and Emma joined the general throng of people meeting and talking to the surfers. Robyn managed to briefly meet the Aussie’s before they excused themselves from the group saying they had a shuttle to catch back to the city that night so they could make flights to the Eastern States. Leaving just the international competitors she learned that the Canadian, American and South African had early starts tomorrow as well. Robyn was a bit disappointed as she would have liked to talk to the Canadian guy for a while. He was tall and handsome with shaggy blonde hair that reminded her more of a snowboarder for some reason. The three fairer skinned of the group also had the greatest number of admirers amongst the local girls too which limited how much the girls could actually manage to hold a conversation without someone else side tracking them.

The two Brazilian’s, by contrast, were darkly tanned and left pretty much alone. They were happily knocking the balls around on the pool table between them, oblivious to the crowd they had gathered. Introducing her and Emma, Robyn found the language barrier a little challenging as they frequently stopped to converse in Portuguese between each other. Robyn managed to learn that they were called Renato and Pedro. Renato was the taller of the two with thick strong muscles and tattoo sleeves down both of his arms. He was dressed in a muscle shirt and boardies so Robyn could make out a number of extra tattoos on his body as well. Pedro was shorter and much leaner. He had made it all the way to the semi-final heat today whereas Renato had been knocked out early into the comp.

When the guys offered to play the girls in a game of pool, the four of them naturally seemed to split into mixed pairs with Robyn and Renato facing off against Emma and Pedro. It was quickly apparent that the boys were very good pool players in addition to being world-class surfers. Still, the comical efforts of Emma and Robyn trying to sink even a ball gave them all something to laugh at and help create a fun and friendly atmosphere between them all. Robyn noted that Emma seemed to be getting along with Pedro splendidly now that she had relaxed about her bikini comp embarrassment and Robyn too was enjoying the company of Renato. She found his halting English took the pressure off trying to make small talk and she was able to interact with him on a more instinctual, natural level.

Robyn did manage to learn that the guys were going to be chasing some big waves tomorrow and due to their fame had a film crew and jet skis lined up to help shoot a surf video. Robyn told Renato that something like that was her dream in life. Renato on learning that she too was a mad keen surfer offered for Robyn and by extension Emma to come surfing with the two of them. They could stay at the resort with them tonight and get a ride with them tomorrow.

Robyn briefly convened a huddle with Emma to discuss Renato’s proposition.

“Em! Renato and Pedro are filming a surf video tomorrow,” she told her friend.

“Oh that’s so cool,” Emma replied. She hadn’t been talking to Pedro about their plans, instead asking questions about Brazil.

“He said we could come and surf with them tomorrow if we wanted to stay the night with them.”

“Oh, I hope they have separate rooms,” Emma said. Her mind quickly going to one thing.

“So, you’d be cool with that?” Robyn checked.

“Yeah just as long as you are?”
