Chapter 13 by LittleBoy

What does the night hold in store?

Dinner and a Show.

I didn't have to wait very long before a limo drove up. I stood still for a moment, unsure what to do. Who from the building could have ordered a limo? None of the guys I know could ever afford one, much like me. One of the tinted windows in the rear rolled down, revealing a beckoning Kat.

"Hurry up, sweetie. We have a reservation to make, and I can't stay parked here all night!" This snapped me from my shocked paralysis and I marched toward the black vehicle. I got in through the door opposite of Kat, looking around the spacious cabin before taking a seat near her.

"This is so cool! I've never been inside of a limo before! How'd you get this?" I asked, still fascinated with the luxurious interior. At the tail of my question, I faced her, my eyes hopefully showing how excited I was.

She laughed, putting an arm around my shoulders and pulling my body up against hers. "Oh, little one. I'm so glad you like it. You don't need to worry about anything tonight though, I thought I told you that! No worries about the transportation, the food, or the entertainment. Promise me?"

She asked this very pointedly, begging for an affirmative response. I obliged, with a nod, and she kissed my forehead. I smiled wide, laying back against my seat, my head slightly leaning on her shoulder while she still had one arm wrapped around me. We drove in relative silence until I rolled down the window on my side, looking out across the buildings and people we passed by.

I was surprised to see we were driving through the nice part of the town, where not many people would stop and look up at a passing limozine. I'd pulled slightly away from Kat in order to peer a little out of the window, ending up with my whole head stuck out of the vehicle, staring ahead of us with glee as the wind rushed past my face.

I felt a gentle grip on the collar of my suit, and I was pulled back into the interior, once again pulled against Kat's body. She gently tsked at me, and I tilted my head in confusion. What had I done wrong?

She gently petted my head, and I realized I'd probably messed up my hair some by letting the wind ruffle it up. "Oh! I'm sorry about that, Kat. I didn't even think about it."

"Oh, don't worry at all. Remember, you promised! I don't blame you for trying to be a puppy, little one. You practically already are one. I adore you." She wrapped a second arm around me for a big hug, then released me completely just as the vehicle came to a stop. She opened her door and gripped my hand, carefully pulling me behind her out of the limo.

I saw a great big awning above us, and a set of wide wooden doors in front of us. Two men dressed in tuxedos stood on either side of the doors and opened them up for us as we approached the entrance. I couldn't see a name for the restaurant, but I most likely wouldn't have recognized it. This part of town was out of my pay range by a significant margin.

She led me inside, not giving me much time to look around before we were at a welcome desk. A man stood there, also in nice clothing, and looked up at us with the fakest smile I'd ever seen.

"Party?" He asked, seemingly without much interest.

I was surprised to here Kat speak up beside me, having been too precoccupied with analyzing the people and things around us. "Gold, party of two."

The man checked a computer before nodding, gesturing us to a different man. This one's clothes weren't quite as nice, but still finer than anything I owned. He led us into a massive eating area, with tables all around donning very nice silk table clothes, alternatimf between red and yellow. All had lit candles, and the room itself was dimmed so these lights could shine out more beautifully.

We were led to a table near the center of the room, and the man who led us helped us to sit down. I was still somewhat stupified by the high quality of everything in the restaurant, by the guitar music gently wafting through the air from a live performer, by the scents of sharp spices and sauces drifting into my nose, and although I wanted to say something about it, I couldn't find the words.

Kat must have noticed my expression, because she took the liberty of pushing a menu into my hands. "You're somewhere in space, aren't you little Adam? This place is big, and fancy, isn't it? It's pretty, and the food is going to be so tasty. I love every inch of you, but you'll have to try to be not so little in here, okay? Don't worry, you're still my baby. But you'll have to be on your best behavior."

Her speech helped to bring me out of my stupor gradually. I nodded responsively to her suggestions of how to describe the place, and by the end I was comprehensive and smiling. "Yes, I will! No problem. And, um, thank you. Like, a billion times. I would never have been able to come here on my own."

She gently caressed used her foot to caress my leg in affection for a moment, then sat up straight again. "Look at your menu, little Adam. Or else I'll pick for you. I'll pick... mushrooms! And asparagus!"

"Nooo, gross! I'll pick, just one second." I said, quietly stifling a giggle. I looked through the menu, surprised by all the things I recognized. I was tempted by the Chicken Parmigiana, but I wanted to try something new since I wouldn't have this opportunity again.

The waiter approached us, looking like the stereotype I'd always seen in movies: cloth draped over his arm, vest, bow tie, and mustache. "Are you ready to order?" He asked.

I began panicking as Kat ordered her own food. I didn't catch what it was that she ordered, since I was far too focused on figuring out my own meal. I heard, "And for the gentleman?" I was skimming through the menu items, finally choosing a dish I'd seen before in a French class I'd gone through, but I didn't quite know what it was.

"Um, the Bouillabaisse, please. And water to drink, with lemon." The man nodded approvingly and took our menues.

"Excellent choices."

He left, and Kat took my hand from across the table. "My, you picked a yummy one. You'll have to let me try a spoonful, okay? And you can have a little bit of my steak. Don't worry, I'll cut it nice and small for you."

I smiled, my stomach suddenly growling from the sound of steak. I didn't want to admit that I didn't quite know what it was that I'd ordered, so I decided not to comment on it.

"Oh, hehe, yeah. I'm excited. What'll we do after this, then? If you don't mind me asking." She smiled and rubbed my hand with her thumb before pulling away and sitting up. I soon saw why she'd pulled away, when a man set down a glass with water and a lemon wedge in front of me, and a woman brought a bottle of wine for Kat and poured some into a glass for her. I was surprised to see the wine, and I had to remind myself that Kat was over the legal drinking age. It made me feel slightly left out, but I didn't say anything about it.

Once the two servers had left, Kat looked at me once again. "It's no secret baby, and it's always okay to ask me anything. I got us tickets to something I think you'll like a lot. It's an orchestral performance at a huge theater." I was shocked, and before I could say anything she went on, "Oh, I know all about your love for classical music, honey. Julianna told me a little bit about you before pairing us up, you know.

"It also made me wonder; with the way you raved about music and composition in all of your essays, why didn't you choose music as your major?" I could barely contain my excitement about the show, but more than that I was flattered by her thoughtfulness.

I took a sip of my water, then responded to her conversation prompt. "Well, I considered it a strong possibility. I really do love it, and when I get the chance, I'd love to take some elective classes in the subject. But I'm better at English. I've never had formal education in music, and I feel like I would've been set back."

She smirked at me. "Awe, but your butt would've looked so cute in a tuxedo at all those performances they have to go to. I guess I'll just have to take you out like this all the time if I want to see you dressed up. Do you like the outfit I got for you, by the way? It looks absolutely adorable. Yet, also dignified."

I grinned through the blush she'd sparked on my cheeks. "Oh, I love it! I especially love the stones in the cuffs and collar, they're so cool! Were they expensive? Oh, and how'd you get the suit made so quickly?"

She raised a finger as if to stop me from talking. "Remember, that's for me to worry about, not you. Based on how cute you look in it, it was a bargain. I'm glad you like it! I love to pamper my baby. I hope you've had fun these past couple of days."

I nodded enthusiastically. "I really have. They've been wonderful. You've been wonderful. And, um... I think... well, I just want to say..." I took a deep breath before continuing, quickly, "I love you!!"

I closed my eyes, my cheeks definitely burning. This was my official announcement, in my opinion. I'd felt this way for a little while, but I'd thought it'd been too little time since we'd begun this relationship for me to say so for certain. I couldn't hold it in any longer, though.

I opened my eyes to see Kat, her head tilted to the side slightly with a look of adoration dancing in her eyes. "Adam... I love you too. You'll never have to worry about anything ever again. I'll take care of you. And I'll love you." She reached across and squeezed my hand tightly, then let go just as our waiter returned to us with two dishes.

The stew placed in front of me had a mouthwatering scent, and her steak was visibly steaming. I was feeling so elated inside from the words she'd just spoken, and I wanted nothing more than to kiss her. But I controlled myself by bringing a spoon to my lips, focusing on what would be an experimental, new taste.

How is the Bouillabaisse?
