Beore I know what's happening, there's a deafening bark right in my face.

I bolt back a quickly as I can. A massive black pit bull is right on me.

Two clumsy steps backwards land me hard against the wall of cages. The dogs in there, who has previously been sleeping or bored, lose their minds. They all start snarling and howling loudly. Some of the cages are stacked two or three high. An animal right by me ear lunges and tries to bite me though the cage.

I can feel the spit splatter my cheek. I drop to the floor to get away. The loose dog surges forward again. The only way to escape is to slide on my butt away. I'm against the wall but there's an open cage at my feet.
