The guard keys something into a keypad next to him and you hear the doors on either side of the building click. He then steps through the curtain behind him into some concealed portion of the building, emerging a few seconds later from a door to the left of the counter. You both take your positions on the opposite sides of the building and prepare to battle.

“By the way, the name’s Ryan. Never caught your name, miss.”

You respond, “My name’s Emilia. Be sure to remember it, since I’ll be a Pokemon Master someday.” You close your eyes and grin smugly, flipping your hair with the back of your hand. It doesn’t really flow in a dramatic fashion though, instead just parting around your hand. Looks like you’ll have to practice that gesture a bit…

“Pokemon Master, huh? That’s quite the ambition. Well, ladies first. Let’s see what you can do.”

You send out Diglett, hoping to strike whenever the opportunity arises and avoid taking much damage. Officer Ryan doesn’t seem to like what he sees.

“Uhh… You sure you ain’t got any other pokemon over there you’d like to use instead?” You confirm you choice in pokemon. You chose Diglett and you won’t be talked out of it. “Right… Well then, come on out Growlithe!”

So that’s what the issue was. Ground-type is super-effective against Fire, so he was trying to talk you out of using his weakness. Well, as long as you have the advantage, you’ll strike early!

“Diglett, use Magnitude!”

“Growlithe, Leer!”

Growlithe’s attack goes off first, noticeably affecting Diglett by causing it to shrink away from its opponent. It recovers right away though, and executes your command. Growlithe gets rattled pretty badly, but manages to hold its own.

“Now Growlithe, Bite!”

Growlithe charges at Diglett while baring its teeth, but you quickly order a counterattack.

“Magnitude, again!”

The attack lands before Growlithe reaches its destination, plopping it on its stomach. After the tremors die down, Growlithe remains on the ground, apparently done in by a second Magnitude. Awesome, you won!

“Dang. Just not my lucky day, I guess.” You both return your pokemon to their pokeballs. “Well, as promised, I’ll be lettin’ you through, Miss Emilia. Shame about the missing payment, but you did win fair and square after all.”

It’s true that you won, but he’s still doing you a favor no matter how you look at it, and he was going to do it for you no matter what…
